Halfway to the Stars. Stories from San Francisco and beyond. April 25, 2015. On a warm day in July, I took the bus to Lands End and walked up the coastal trail. I enjoyed the ocean views, rocky beaches, and windswept waters of the coast. It was such a wild natural area that for a while I forgot I was still in the city. I also saw two man-made points of interest:. A giant camera that housed a working camera obscura. The ruins of Sutro Baths, an indoor swimming pool complex that burned down in the 60s.

In most cities I’d been to, people walked. N- and I strolled leisurely from the Ferry Building to Fisherman’s Wharf. By the end of it, I felt like I had just begun. I could live here.
