Thursday, January 5, 2017. Just to give you some idea of what life is like as a writer, here is what I'm up to at the present time. I have the second book in a trilogy recently completed the editing process and now waiting release. The third book (and final? Is in the lineup for the editing process. While I’m waiting, I’ve started playing around with a potential space opera. It may turn into a novel. These days I’m mucking about with the opening chapters. Would I recommend the writing life?

The Writers Vineyard: Merry merry happy happy
https://thewritersvineyard.blogspot.com/2016/12/merry-merry-happy-happy.html
Sunday, December 25, 2016. Merry merry happy happy. I write this the morning of Christmas Eve, with a heart full of gratitude. Despite some frightening world events, this day I'm reminded of how many good, loving, kind, compassionate, and hilarious people I have around me. The sun is out in our beautiful valley, creating a pale blue sky that sets the white blanket of snow sparkling. I live in a painting, it's so lovely. Elizabeth Fountain blogs and shares stories at. Here goes! 1) Make sure you understand the genre before you begin. Read, read, read. Take notes. And then read some more. How cops work on cases, but how cases work on cops. 6) Understand the W-5. Who....8) As...

The Writers Vineyard: Christmas as a Theme
https://thewritersvineyard.blogspot.com/2016/12/christmas-as-theme.html
Sunday, December 18, 2016. Christmas as a Theme. Christmas is a week away. Some people write moving Christmas stories. I wrote The Prince of Keegan Bay. A story that culminates at midnight on Christmas Eve with a scene straight out of Keystone Cops or Laurel and Hardy. Other than that, I don’t believe I mention this most precious of holidays for Christians in any of my other books. If we enjoyed them. We can share the joy and make a writer happy this Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah. The Pri...

The Writers Vineyard: Counting My Blessings...
https://thewritersvineyard.blogspot.com/2016/12/counting-my-blessings.html
Wednesday, December 14, 2016. One of the songs in the film is a number sung by Bing Crosby to (and with) Rosemary Clooney—“Count Your Blessings (Instead of Sheep)". And this got me thinking about my own blessings during this chaotic year, and the fact that I don't often stop to catalog and appreciate them. At the top of the list: I’m blessed to have an exceptionally loving, supportive wife who not only puts up with my penchant for writing books, but actually encourages it. I have the blessing of a reason...

The Writers Vineyard: The 1 to 99 Rule
https://thewritersvineyard.blogspot.com/2017/01/the-1-to-99-rule.html
Tuesday, January 10, 2017. The 1 to 99 Rule. One of my favorite Einstein quotes explains the ratio of inspiration (1%) to perspiration (99%) in creating anything. I teach my students that if you want the good stuff to happen you have to be there ready. For it to happen. That means the hard work needs to be done of applying yourself to a task, be it writing or tinkering with the universe like Einstein (well, maybe we try to do that too! Hugs, January Bain. 8220;What are you. You think this is easy? She to...

The Writers Vineyard: Monsters and Heroes and Romance, Oh My...
https://thewritersvineyard.blogspot.com/2017/01/monsters-and-heroes-and-romance-oh-my.html
Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Monsters and Heroes and Romance, Oh My. Superheroes, monsters, and romance. Not, thank goodness, all at the same time… Although that might make for an interesting story line: superhero falls in love with monster. Talk about conflicted. Nah, I’m sure it’s been done many times over, but still… it does have a certain je n’est sais quoi, doesn’t it? Pulls out pencil, scribbles notes*. And that’s what makes them important. Because often, hope is all we’ve got. ...He lives in upsta...
