Hatchville Pottery

Monday, April 21, 2014. A little bit of North Carolina on Cape Cod. Dinner tonight here in Falmouth is a cheese grits casserole made with barbecued pork and Portuguese linguica sausage. The grits are courtesy of Tracey Broome in Chapel Hill, NC. And fine grits they are. They're from Old Mill of Guilford in Oak Ridge, NC. Yellow grits. Nothin' better. Below: Cheese grit casserole ready for the oven; fine stoker and potter Ron Mello of Middleboro, MA, shaking up the ash pit in Rose's Bourry Box kiln. I'm k...

Hatchville Pottery: January 2013

http://hatchvillepottery.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 31, 2013. New pots from the kiln. I had unexpected results from the rutile glaze that I tried for the first time. It's Kim's recipe; she gets a milky blue/white on her pots, a color I thought I would try out. But for some reason the glaze fired to a deep purple for me, only showing that blue/white when it was poured over or otherwise overlapped another glaze. Too much reduction? A different grade of rutile? Monday, January 28, 2013. Kiln loaded for firing . and a card from France. Oh, a...

Hatchville Pottery: May 2013

http://hatchvillepottery.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 31, 2013. Collapsing kiln posts: Ideas? My friend Kim Medeiros and I are stumped as to what caused the splintering of three of the posts in her kiln yesterday. So I thought I'd try some blogger crowd-sourcing. It seems to us that if a prop was going to give way after 15 years it would happen one at a time. Or, perhaps, one in one part of the kiln and one in another. But all three on the same shelf strikes us both as a clue . but a clue to what? Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Photos: Serving bowl, M...

Hatchville Pottery: June 2013

http://hatchvillepottery.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 6, 2013. Road trip . and an answer. Kim Medeiros and I took to the highway yesterday, driving six hours of the Massachusetts Turnpike from the ocean to the Berkshires to bring back a half-ton of clay from Sheffield Pottery in the extreme southwestern part of the state. Here's an image from Asia Barong yesterday. Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Two pots from the upcoming New Bedford "Harbor" show. It will be interesting to see if two Cape Cod potters - Kimberly Sheerin Medeiros and myself - can draw...

Hatchville Pottery: February 2014

http://hatchvillepottery.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 26, 2014. The blog is back . and an international show of clay this summer. Hello to both my blog readers. I'm kidding about that (I think), but only barely. It's been eight months since the last post. But I'm doing a little mouth-to-mouth on hatchvillepottery.blogspot.com, hoping that it will revive and be a lively part of my outreach to the world from snowy Cape Cod. That's all for now. Glad to be back. The photos, top to bottom: Anagama-fired vase by New Zealand potter Bruce Martin...

In Short...: October 2012

http://inshort-stuff.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 20, 2012. I am soooo tired of this political season I could spit. I knew who I was going to vote for months ago. The "debates" are not clarifying as much as they are annoying. Now, for the first time they've been turned into a shout-fest. No doubt the"brilliance" of Karl Rove at work. Jeeeez Louise can we have a little decorum returned to the forum? I am sick of political ads. I don't look at any of them for either side. JUST END THIS MESS! We need some serious revamping of our politica...

Support your local potter. A record of the life and times here at the phillips pottery in abilene, texas. Wednesday, September 17, 2014. I think I've made a huge mistake. That must be what it needs. That's the only thing left to tweak. All of karma's unrequited bad kiln fortune is playing it's course and SURELY we must be done with all that by now. It's easy to read too much into situations, is the universe telling me I made the wrong choice? Nah, that's silly talk. Or is it? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Support your local potter. A record of the life and times here at the phillips pottery in abilene, texas. Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Employee of the month. It's strange to find a meaningful quote in such a strange place as the Gilmore Girls, but nonetheless I think Luke, the grumpy diner owner, said it best when his nephew dropped out of school to work at walmart and then criticized him for working in a diner:. 8220;I own this business, kid! Support your local potter. A record of the life and times here at the phillips pottery in abilene, texas. Saturday, February 22, 2014. I've been taking a bit of a sabbatical since October. I've spent a lot of time working on my house and property. I'm starting to phase back into the pottery. I spent the last week cleaning up the back acre, it was one huge gigantic trashy mess. Wood piles and 5 foot weeds. Here is a nice before and after. Monday, February 17, 2014. So what's the point of all this?
