Heather on the run. Running, fuelled by chocolate. Monthly Archives: September 2014. When injury comes knocking at your door. September 5, 2014. I thought I’d done pretty well so far, getting through seven weeks with aches and pains but nothing really serious. But I’m aware that potential for injury is never far away, so when I felt pain in my left leg during an easy run last week, I knew to ease off straight away and walk home. Ah, it’s probably just a niggle, I thought. Now that is a glorious morning.

Heather on the run. Running, fuelled by chocolate. August 10, 2014. Well I set this blog up with the best of intentions, but do you think I found time to actually post? Time to fix that. The countdown is on and there are less than three months to go until the Auckland Marathon on 2 November. Three months. Sounds like a long time, but in reality it isn’t when you are training for a huge event like your first marathon. Throughout the year I have run with the JogSquad. Once daylight saving ended I learnt pr...

Heather on the run. Running, fuelled by chocolate. Monthly Archives: October 2014. One week to go! October 25, 2014. The last few months have flown by and suddenly I find myself one week out from the Auckland marathon. How did that happen? It seems like a minute ago I was contemplating my first run beyond half marathon distance, and now I’ve reached the peak in my training and am well into the taper. So what have I learnt over the past few months of marathon training? The last month or so has been filled...

Well, I did it! I got through all 42.2 kilometres of the Auckland Marathon in one piece. It’s a pretty amazing feeling to have finally done it after all those months of training. So, the race…. Unfortunately there was just one drawback of our hotel room on the Viaduct the noise from the bars below, which was a party zon...

Join me on my journey to the NYC marathon. 1 day until I leave for New York. My TCS New York City Marathon experience. November 15, 2014. Earlier this year I decided to take on the challenge of competing in the New York Marathon. Prior to this the furthest I had run was 15km, and to be honest I’d never had any desire to run any further. The New York marathon is a once in a lifetime opportunity to pound the streets of all 5 boroughs of New York, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronyx.

On the road again...

On the road again. A behind the scenes look at deputation. Tuesday, October 2, 2012. When we first started traveling, I was still nursing the baby. Jonathan preaches often, so that leaves me in charge of the kids during the service. It would get interesting when I had to step out and nurse the baby. I try to bring a few things for the older ones to do during the service.a few small toys, crayons and paper. That's about it. Nathan was doing his thing. He's my predictable child. We shared a laugh.
