January 23, 2014. We just came back from Arkansas. I had given Fred a trip to. Crater of Diamonds State Park. Arkansas is also famous for its crystals. We went in search of a place to dig, but it was too late in the day. We did find a great place and we plan to return to do some digging. Fred was able to purchase 3 interesting specimens. What Fred Loves About Colorado. July 25, 2014. July 25, 2014. When we go 4-wheeling in the mountains, one of the things Fred loves is exploring old mining sites. It’s amazing what the miners were capable of building without heavy-lifting equipment. Buildings on steep hillsides you can barely walk on. How did they do it? Sad to see them deteriorating. Some efforts being made to stabilize the old buildings, but really too little, too late. I shot these pics with a telephoto lens. He was way up there!
