Sunday, 12 April 2015. Ramblings on Gratitude - week 15. Coming weeks these words will dominate my thoughts: affirmation, attention and affection. In trying to make a better world around me, giving all to ‘the others’ (reference to #Lost), I’ve lost a sense of myself. I’m on a new journey and re-discovering myself. I need to pay more attention to myself. That happens to me often too. My thoughts get all jumbled. 8220; Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. Have the co...

Helen's Blog: January 2014
http://helenkamphuis.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, 16 January 2014. I think I saw the apliquick tools for the first time in Houston in 2011. The past 2.5 years I noticed that a lot of Dutch quilters started getting these tools. My BQFF (Best Quilter Friend Forever) got her set last October. Yes, I couldn’t resist using this acronym! Finally at the end of December (2013) I got my own set for the workshop with Jobina de Boer. In Putten at the Quiltkelder. Besides these tools there are a lot of other notions you can use when appliquéing. To na...

Saturday, 8 March 2014. Quick Trapunto Quilting: learning to make a quilt pop! From the Italian for "to embroider,". Is a method of quilting that is also called "stuffed work". In Latin is means "to prick with a needle" Trapunto is a stuffed quilting technique which may be done by hand or machine that creates a noticeably raised design. Giving great texture to quilts! You can find more about Trapunto on this site. Thanks, Angela Mitchell for sharing. Another tutorial can be found here. Here is her sampler.

Helen's Blog: Stonefields Bee - Zutphen
http://helenkamphuis.blogspot.com/2015/04/stonefields-bee-zutphen.html
Sunday, 5 April 2015. Stonefields Bee - Zutphen. Well I have to share the lovely photos of some of the blocks that the other quilters made from the Stonefields bee that I visited yesterday. Even I have something to show. Naturally I had to take some pictures while walking from the carpark to the shop. Look at all those lovely blocks. One of the quilters wasn't that happy with this block, that is shown underneath. I think it is pretty. Need to make the backside look pretty too. Sunday, April 05, 2015.

Helen's Blog: Ramblings on Gratitude - week 14
http://helenkamphuis.blogspot.com/2015/04/ramblings-on-gratitude-week-14.html
Sunday, 5 April 2015. Ramblings on Gratitude - week 14. The transformative power of gratitude to me is huge. At the moment I’m preparing myself to go on a new journey. I’m facing one of my fears and accepting that ‘others‘ have the power to define this journey. I’m feeling the fear. I’m anxious since someone threw me a curveball at a time I least expected it. When you feel fear, it invariably means you're:. 1 Exactly where you're supposed to be. 2 Doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing. The bells...

Sunday, 20 April 2014. There are still moments I do attend a quilt bee. Sadly, not as productive as I would like to be. I spent another lovely evening with these ladies at this lovely home. As you can see there are a lot of us. Some of the projects of these quiltmakers. There was only one true quiltmaker in our midst. Looking forward to our next Bee, which will be real soon. Sunday, April 20, 2014. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Click to follow my blog. In the practice of gratitude I've found happiness.

Sunday, 11 May 2014. Happiness can grow – diamonds have healing powers! Four years ago I bought a ring to remind me that everything has an up-side and that there is always hope for better times. The redundancy that turned my life, my career, upside down had an up-side. I received an large redundancy payout for the many years I was employed. A little was used to invest in a diamond ring. Why? I believed it would heal me. The diamond ring I bought, can grow! Look at this beauty. Some might have noticed, bu...

Helen's Blog: September 2014

Sunday, 21 September 2014. The top of the ‘twas the night before Christmas’ – stitchery quilt – is nearly completed! I really enjoyed stitching all the panels and can’t wait till I have patched the center quilt. This is what it will look like. It is a pattern from Crab-apple Hill. I picked up this stitchery again in the first week of my Summer Break. The photo below was taken at the beginning of August. I’m nearly there! It is nearly halfway through August. Still got some thread left. It would be awesome...

Helen's Blog: February 2015
http://helenkamphuis.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, 28 February 2015. The last day of February was als the monthly Saturday Quilt Bee at Laura's Quilt Atelier. Had to share some pictures of the projects that everyone is working on. Well I loved this plate, with the rooster. The cake was delicious too. You can see, as hardly a crumb is left. One of the bee members brought some antique sewing and knitting notions with her that made our mouths drop open. We were nearly drooling! A real show and tell. Saturday, February 28, 2015. Helen's Blog: What have 'I' learned in March?
http://helenkamphuis.blogspot.com/2015/03/what-have-i-learned-in-march.html
Sunday, 29 March 2015. What have 'I' learned in March? 1 Teaching is my gift! To teach others to become critical thinkers, to understand and apply their knowledge, to share this knowledge with others and be creative is a very satisfying job. I absolutely love mentoring their learning process. The greatest thing of all is that I learn too. 3 Sharing your successes is not the way to go in Dutch society. What frustrates me is that it is so hard to remain positive, when you are surrounded by naggers. 6 I lik...
