Notes from the edge. Stray thoughts on media, gender, communication and life (formerly greylynnsinglesclub). Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Schoolgirls in Kalimpong, West Bengal, India. Photo / Julie Zhu. This is week two of my givealittle.co.nz campaign Video Against Poverty. Because I'm a filmmaker with a few awards under my belt and have experience with communications and outreach I've been invited to run two workshops in a two-day seminar. One will be on video production - everything from shooting to...

Notes from the edge: Lucy

Notes from the edge. Stray thoughts on media, gender, communication and life (formerly greylynnsinglesclub). Friday, August 22, 2014. This post is part of the 100 Days Project. Tonight I saw Luc Besson's film. And it made me wish that people who work in the entertainment industry had more of a clue about science and less of a penchant for re-treading cinematic cliches. But I also acknowledge that what I found a bit overblown, other people may consider to be a highly sophisticated post-modern narrative.

Notes from the edge: My mechanic is a right-winger
http://www.notesfromtheedge.net/2014/08/my-mechanic-is-right-winger.html
Notes from the edge. Stray thoughts on media, gender, communication and life (formerly greylynnsinglesclub). Friday, August 22, 2014. My mechanic is a right-winger. This post is part of the 100 Days Project. The only thing that gets my mechanic more enthusiastic than cars and sex is politics. We had a conversation on the drive to work once about why I think tax-funded infra-structure is what makes a country a good place to live. It was then I realised he was a raving rightie. And a Whale Oil ...Next time...

Notes from the edge: Dirty Politics
http://www.notesfromtheedge.net/2014/08/dirty-politics.html
Notes from the edge. Stray thoughts on media, gender, communication and life (formerly greylynnsinglesclub). Thursday, August 14, 2014. This post is part of the 100 Days Project. As I listen to the response being made to Nicky Hager's book (. It's terribly ironic that Key is denying all significant links to blogger Cameron Slater when he, in person and with the press, is using the exact same techniques Slater does on the blog. I think the medium has become the message - there is a meta level to this ...

Notes from the edge. Stray thoughts on media, gender, communication and life (formerly greylynnsinglesclub). Friday, September 05, 2014. Haloumi, spiders and war. This post is part of the 100 Days Project. I attended a dinner party tonight for the first time in a long time. There was a neurotic black dog and someone I hadn't seen in a while plus home brew and some pretty decent fried cheese. I regaled the group (they laughed - I was. A small mass of shadow. On the attic wall, it. Incapable of arriving,.

Notes from the edge: Sick again
http://www.notesfromtheedge.net/2014/08/sick-again.html
Notes from the edge. Stray thoughts on media, gender, communication and life (formerly greylynnsinglesclub). Friday, August 22, 2014. This post is part of the 100 Days Project. I've got nothing interesting to share about the world - my temperature is up and I feel crummy - again. It's probably nothing much, but after a week of lethargy and gloom I was just starting to feel normal. Cue the woe. My 100 Days project. Oh yeah - the sound of the world's smallest violin, playing just for me.

Notes from the edge: Surviving super long-haul
http://www.notesfromtheedge.net/2014/08/surviving-super-long-haul.html
Notes from the edge. Stray thoughts on media, gender, communication and life (formerly greylynnsinglesclub). Monday, August 25, 2014. This post is part of the 100 Days Project. 1) Choose an airline with individual inflight entertainment available. This is the one thing I ask of my airline. It's usually universally available on super-long-haul but double-check if you're going ultra-cheap. Why is all this essential? 13) When you arrive in transit, locate your bag if necessary, clear passport control and se...
