Friday, December 26, 2008. As we sail close hauled on starboard along past Rye Ocean Beach, we have regained two positions, with only Shamrock now in front. Monday, December 29, 2008. Helsal II finished at 04:00:42 Third over the line, only a few hundred metres behind Extasea, after an exciting tight tacking duel up the Derwent. We put in 18 tacks between the Iron Pot and the Finish at Castray Esplanade. The crew have done an amazing job and we have had an awesome time. Saturday, January 3, 2009. Helsal II Returns to South Australia. Helsal II left Hobart shortly after completing the King of the Derwent yacht race, which was the coldest days sailing most of us have ever experienced. At last report this afternoon (via sat phone) they were abeam Freycinet Peninsula, heading North in light winds, doing a lot of motor sailing. They may need to make a stop along the Tassie North Coast for some extra fuel to be sure they make it back with no fuel issues.

Sunday, December 28, 2008. After a frustrating, but successful morning in very light and variable winds from Maria Island south to the Forestier Peninsula, we are now sailing at a reasonable speed in a light ESE breeze. We have made up 3 places since last contact, so are very happy with that, but it will take a small miracle for us to catch the lead boat Shamrock, who are already around Tasman. We understand they may have been becalmed in Storm bay for a while, but they are still a long way ahead.

Monday, December 29, 2008. We are approaching Iron Pot after a great run up Storm Bay thanks to our local sailors Richo and John. We think we have regained second spot but arent counting our chickens yet. We are having an exciting time after a frustrating afternoon, and are all looking forward to a few beers, showers and some fun.
