Hickery Holler Farm

Thursday, July 16, 2015. Been busy canning here in the holler! Lots of cucumbers, squash and zucchini. Twenty jars of green beans about a dozen quarts of squash canned. Made a gallon of refrigerator pickles just to munch on. Tomatoes coming along, field peas are loaded, just starting to pick okra and then. Here come the locusts. And how about some torrential rain fall. About 3 inches in an hour! And some hail to go along with it. And not some wimpy hail either. How about some golf ball size hail. I think...

Hickery Holler Farm: The Quilt Gallery

http://hickeryhollerfarm.blogspot.com/p/quilt-gallery.html

One of my favorite skills is quilting. I make mostly traditional quilts pieced on either my grandmothers treadle machine, my mother's circa 1940 Singer electric or my own modern machine. All of my own quilts are hand quilted on my mother's cypress floor frame. Please be patient with our construction I am hoping to make this page a collection of my quilting projects. Hickery Holler Farm: Pineapple Zucchini

http://hickeryhollerfarm.blogspot.com/2011/09/pineapple-zucchini.html

Saturday, October 1, 2011. Like most people this time of year we have a plethora of squash and zucchini. We have canned squash and zucchini in jars. We have blanched and froze squash and zucchini. We have breaded and froze squash and zucchini. We have dehydrated squash and zucchini and even made bread from zucchini. And then I ran across a recipe for pineapple made from zucchini. 4 quarts zucchini, grated or diced. 1 1/2 cups bottled lemon juice (standardized acidity). Blessings from The Holler. I always...

Hickery Holler Farm: Azalea Time

http://hickeryhollerfarm.blogspot.com/2015/05/azalea-time.html

Friday, May 8, 2015. The Azalea show has been really spectacular this week with no rain or storms to knock the blooms off. Soon they will fade and then I will start to shape and prune them. They look as if they have been neglected for quite some time and I hope to fertilize them after blooming and a good layer of mulch will help also. And the iris have been a nice surprise. Big blue and white ones. Hoping everyone has a safe and blessed weekend and a beautiful Mother's Day to all you Mothers out there.
