Magic-2?

http://homebrewcpu.org/magic-16.htm

An encore for Magic-1? Shortly after I declared Magic-1 hardware complete, I casually mentioned to my wife that I was starting to think about Magic-2. Her response was swift, and final:. No, there will be no Magic-2! She's the love of my life, the woman I plan on growing old with, mother of my children, my partner and best friend. I have to respect her wishes on this. So, there will be no Magic-2. Instead, we'll call the follow-on project Magic-16. Much of the reason I wanted to do Magic-1 was to learn m...

Technical Info

Documentation - It's a good thing. The documentation for Magic-1, unfortunately, is scattered about the website a bit more than would be ideal. However, we'll try to organize it a bit under this page. I wasn't entirely faithful in keeping a distinction between an architecture and an implementation. The following web page is an attempt to describe a Magic architecture, of which Magic-1 is a particular implementation. Development Diaries and Miscellaneous Documentation.

Minix Port

http://homebrewcpu.org/minix_port.htm

Other than that, there's just been a lot of performance tuning, and the addition of some new applications (such as an IRC client, Tom Pittman's Tiny Basic, the Small C Compiler, and probably some others I've forgotten about). I also reworked the directory structure a bit - in particular putting the games at /usr/local/bin/games. Second, I moved the www root into a ram disk. I also ran cross a nice version of yahtzee and ported it. Try yahtzee. Anyway, lots to do at work and around the house, so I'm not s...

My Other Projects

http://homebrewcpu.org/projects.htm

My Other Projects ]. Some of my other projects. Might as well put them here. I'd read about these things long ago, and the part I remember most was what happened after the device cohered. To reset it, you'd have to physically jostle the coherer. This led to a lot of really interesting inventions to automatically kick the coherer after it activated. I recently ran across an excellent web page which described how easy it is to make your own coherer: http:/ home.earthlink.net/ lenyr/coherer.htm. I doubt I'l...

New Stuff

http://homebrewcpu.org/new_stuff.htm

Though the hardware for the project is complete, there's a lot of software left to do. And, I suppose I'll likely tweak the hardware a bit from time to time as well. I'll update things on this page. We're approaching the 10-year anniversary of Magic-1 coming alive, which has prompted me to tune it up a bit. I replaced the 9-year-old power supply (which was failing) and reworked the mounting for the SD card drives. You can see pictures and details on my G stream. Anyway, here's Magic-1's clock timing:.
