I Live Therefore I Learn

http://homeschooling.vilter.us/i_live_therefore_i_learn.html

I Live Therefore I Learn. Living an Unschooling Life. Unschooling is both easy and difficult to describe. The easy answer is that unschooling means “not schooling,” but it is a lot harder to explain what we do instead of schooling. How do we do this? It is natural for people to learn—each in their own way. It is natural for children to want to understand the world around them. They also want to join the adult world and become competent and capable adults themselves. They’ll strive...

Misc Notes from Alfie Kohn Talks

http://homeschooling.vilter.us/kohnnotes.html

Love your kids for no damn reason-A parent’s love is unconditional. Talk less, ask more. What do you want them thinking about, the book or the reading? Interest or stuff to get better at? Effort or ability, why put in the effort? You make good decisions by making decisions, not by following directions. Constructing knowledge-Learning at its best. When to make it difficult? You don’t have to light the fire. Help make sure it doesn’t go out. Of motivation not how much. Maximize choices-whatever they want.

A Richer Life

http://homeschooling.vilter.us/richer_life.html

Our family rests comfortably in the arms of technology. It always has. We have two televisions, seven computers, and four gaming consoles. We also have books and magazines, pencils and paper, board games and card games, music and art. It is all there with the same purpose: to enrich our lives. When they pretend along with Mr. Rogers who is pretending to be in the opera? We routinely use computers in photography, cooking, travel planning, accounting, illustration, sound recording and editing, and to liste...

Stop Saying "Good Job!"

http://homeschooling.vilter.us/goodjob.html

Five Reasons to Stop Saying Good Job! NOTE: This article was published in Young Children, September 2001; and, in abridged form (with the title Hooked on Praise), in Parents Magazine, May 2000. Hang out at a playground, visit a school, or show up at a child’s birthday party, and there’s one phrase you can count on hearing repeatedly: Good job! Even tiny infants are praised for smacking their hands together (Good clapping! Is it possible that telling kids they’ve done a good job may have less to do ...

Outlines for Talks

http://homeschooling.vilter.us/outlines/index.html

These are outlines that I used to give various talks. They are just my outlines. Please forgive their sketchy nature they were originally intended only for my eyes. I am posting them here because several people asked me to. I have posted them in two formats:. A PDF version of that document. An HTML that Word generated. This version flattens all of the spacing and indenting, But loads very fast. These are the program descriptions from the talks. Reading in Good Time. The Riches of Video Gaming.

Homeschooling | Un alt fel de educație

Un alt fel de educație. Nu-ți mai distra puștiul (în 3 pași) – de Janet Lansbury. 04/04/2015 by Andreea Constantin 2 Comments.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Is it me or do you have to reorganize every other week? I knew the first year would be allot of trial and error (hoping it will be less in future years). What I didn't know is the reorganizing how we do our day and how I keep all the stuff organized would be such a feat! This has all worked well for me, I am no longer on a quest to re-organize or make better the system which I now have, UNTIL my mom gave me a 10 drawer organizing cart! Will it fit anywhere? How will I use it?
