It's Quarters for Me: Optimal Hooves: Don't have overgrown bars
http://quartersforme.blogspot.com/2011/03/optimal-hooves-dont-have-overgrown-bars.html
It's Quarters for Me. Thursday, March 31, 2011. Optimal Hooves: Don't have overgrown bars. This information is a little revolutionary, very few people really understand the bars. It wasn't until I found Cheryl at ABC Hoofcare that I really learned what they are, what they do, and how to manage them. What do the bars do? They give the back of the foot the arch structure that the coffin bone gives to the front of the hoof. What are the bars made of? How do you manage the bars? But you need to trim the bars!

It's Quarters for Me: Evening feed at my house
http://quartersforme.blogspot.com/2015/01/evening-feed-at-my-house.html
It's Quarters for Me. Thursday, January 1, 2015. Evening feed at my house. Evening feed at my house:. Get the toddler all bundled up in his snow suit, get myself all bundled up. Walk halfway out to the chicken coop, remember that I forgot hot water for the chickens, walk back into the house to get hot water. Get all the way out to the coop, bust the ice out of the pan and refill with water. Chickens are good for the night. January 1, 2015 at 2:40 PM. Just teach him not to eat the yellow snow. Its only be...

It's Quarters for Me: Optimal Hooves: Have healthy frogs and soles
http://quartersforme.blogspot.com/2011/03/optimal-hooves-have-healthy-frogs-and.html
It's Quarters for Me. Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Optimal Hooves: Have healthy frogs and soles. Is triangle shaped and full-fleshed, without thrush. To understand what the sole should look like you need to see the corium again:. The concave shape that you see on the bottom of the corium should be reflected by the external sole. Why are soles concave? Can you think of a better shape to hold up a couple hundred pounds of horse? Coriander's right hind, check out the concavity. Surprisingly frogs are actually...

It's Quarters for Me: My first ride on a friesian
http://quartersforme.blogspot.com/2011/11/my-first-ride-on-friesian.html
It's Quarters for Me. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. My first ride on a friesian. I started taking dressage lessons at a local-ish barn a few weeks ago, I've been feeling like I need to get further along in my education before I get on Coriander again and start asking him for more. Fortunately the barn where I test rode an Ansur saddle offers lessons. For my last lesson though, I rode a different horse. A friesian. A friesian that is much more specially trained than the appy cross. Calm, Forward, Straight.

It's Quarters for Me: Riding Miss Gwenevere
http://quartersforme.blogspot.com/2014/10/riding-miss-gwenevere.html
It's Quarters for Me. Sunday, October 26, 2014. I've been riding Miss Gwenevere! After cutting down a thousand trees, mowing and waiting for the horrible biting flies to go away, I was able to start riding again. Yippee! Anyway, she's been working on moving her hindquarters, her shoulders, walking figure eights. She even got in a few steps of shoulder-in the other day. Progress! October 26, 2014 at 5:49 PM. Looks like you have the same Buckeroo Leather side pull as I do . . . October 26, 2014 at 7:29 PM.

It's Quarters for Me: Optimal hooves: Have low heels and short toes
http://quartersforme.blogspot.com/2011/04/optimal-hooves-have-low-heels-and-short.html
It's Quarters for Me. Sunday, April 3, 2011. Optimal hooves: Have low heels and short toes. Note: This is my last planned entry for this series. If you want to know about something else, please let me know. More x rays for you, I bet you didn't know you'd get good at interpreting these:. High heels and hoof wall separation, a vet would call this a rotation. High heels combined with a long toe. As the next graphic shows, if the coffin bone is left standing on its tip for too long, the bone will degrade.

It's Quarters for Me: Seeing the lateral cartilages
http://quartersforme.blogspot.com/2012/06/seeing-lateral-cartilages.html
It's Quarters for Me. Friday, June 1, 2012. Seeing the lateral cartilages. I seem to have been having a lot of email discussions lately about the lateral cartilages and impacted bars, mostly about how to find and evaluate them. I was having a hard time articulating this so I decided to do a photo post about it. First of all- why is this important? The lateral cartilages are key to the hoof mechanism. It is the lateral cartilages- not the frog- that are the blood pump of the hoof. This is another founder.

It's Quarters for Me: April 2015
http://quartersforme.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
It's Quarters for Me. Monday, April 20, 2015. Just a little update for the three people still checking into my blog, yes I'm still alive. My horses are still alive too. I've even got a sort of plan for training and riding them this year. Part of my plan hinges on what kind of outdoor play equipment I can get to keep my son occupied for a half hour or so at a time. What do you think? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Three Shades of Gwen (Shade of Conclusive x Extensive Bouquet). Memoirs of a Horse Girl. GRAPHI...
