Living it up in alaska. The hike up from Cathedral Rapids near Tok was beautiful. We were able to hike straight up the drainage to the start of the climb and there was one waterfall after another. The climb up the pass was relativity short and ended just below snow line. We had a few solid sheep trails that made for easy climbing on and off. The pass was guarded by the sheep. The next morning we floated the fast, fun and braided Roberton River 25 miles back to the bridge. Looks like another fun adventure.

Living it up in alaska. 1 year kidney transplant anniversary at Mayo! Ben and I are at Mayo this week for my 1 year kidney transplant anniversary! It has been an amazing year and hard to sum up in one blog post. The biopsy is over, and all of the other major testing this week, Ben, our families and friends have been super supportive throughout. Living it up in alaska. We started our hike up the summit trail from the Wickersham Dome trail head. The summit trail is in great shape. We hiked past the trail shelter at mile 8 until around mile 10.5 to start our bush whack to Eleazar's cabin in the White Mountains. We headed toward the cabin off the ridge and half way through we came to a nice clearing to get a view of our direction. The cabin is just beyond the hilltop directly behind Dan's head. Living it up in alaska. Ben and I had a fantastic short weekend trip to the Brooks Range. The Brooks Range is 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle and around 300 miles north of Fairbanks. We stopped in Wiseman at Bernie and Uda's B&B to say hi to the winter classic guys too. Atigun Pass was so beautiful, Ben shot the 4x5 and I could not wait to get out the skis. Over the pass it was still winter at -12F, but sunny and no wind. Skiing early the next morning over Galbrith Lake and up the ridge.

Living it up in alaska. AK Range Traverse and East Fork Susitna. This picture is the first of a million stream crossings on our hike. The the first pass and the rest of the trip we had incredible weather and aweome views of the Alaska Range. Heather, Patrick, Ben, Ed and me falling over as I ran from the self timer. Saddle of the first pass. Ben and Heather hiking along side Mt. Deborah and caribou. Just two of many curious caribou on the hike ( Ed Plumb photo). Wow, that looks fantastic. Great pics.

Neither Brian or I packed many warm clothes. We went for the lightweight packs. Didn't even really have a change of clothes. Thursday, March 31, 2011. My first pig tails. Trying to get a picture of this girl is near impossible. She is always on the move and if she sees anything electronic, she makes a be-line for it. But something that I didn't think possible either, was getting 2 little pig tales on this girls head. We did it. It was hard, and her head turned a shade of red from the strain, but we got them!
