Diagnosis and Treatment of Frequently Occurring Diseases. Our Department provides most Postdoc courses in Dutch. You can find them here. On our Dutch website. Besides that, we provide an International Primary Care Research Training Curriculum. The course was first launched in 1993 and became a great success. Two times a year, researchers in General Practice from all over Europe gather for a multi-day congress. Meetings shift between the participating European countries. Hanny Prick. Diagnosis and Treatment of Frequently Occurring Diseases. The Department of Family Medicine in Maastricht is also the home to specialists in the field of 'Care for the Elderly' and 'People with disabilities'. In the Netherlands it is possible to formally combine Family Medicine Specialty Training with research training in practice as Family Medicine research trainees. This program prepares young Family Medicine trainees for a career as clinician-researcher. The program typically lasts 6.5 years leading to registration as a Family Medicine Doctor / Specialist and a PhD thesis. At the moment, nearly 60 trainees follow the combined program at one of the eight Dutch specialty training departments.

Many practices are structural involved in teaching (clerkships and specialty training). Some of them also participate in an occasional research project if they are interested. Participation in research will be stimulated for practices that are involved in Family Medicine Specialty Training (academization).
