Thursday, September 10, 2009. Summer travels - Florida, Part 3. Mike, Sandra, Bobbie and Buddy on the beach at Eagle's Nest. I had never imagined going to Marco Island - didn't know it existed. But when my sister and her husband invited Mike and me to join them for a week's stay at a friend's timeshare on Marco Island, we gratefully took them up on it. An unidentified tree in spectacular bloom in old Naples. A spray of white orchids hangs from a palm. My favorite Naples storefront. A red-shouldered hawk,...

Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Sweet columbine, friend of mine. No matter what the color or shape of its bloom, though, I am an admirer of most any of the lovely columbines that dance on spring breezes. Surely this magical wildflower summons any fairy spirits who may roam nearby, as well as the spirit of faerie that dwells within each of us. Above, a surprising new red hybrid of unknown parentage. Tuesday, April 21, 2009. The garden in April. Planted by wind and rain many years ago,. White bleeding heart,.

Friday, January 30, 2009. A small tree of Asian origin, grows in my garden. Each of the eight or nine years since I planted it, its blossoms have released their fresh, sweet scent in the January and February air, making a little song in my heart as I walk nearby. Known commonly as Paperbush,. Has been used in China and Japan to make high quality paper. I learned today from Ketzel Levine ( http:/ www.npr.org/programs/talkingplants/profiles/edgeworthia.html. Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Summer travels - Emerald Isle. This has been a busy summer! A week or so following my foray to Topsail with Christy, Mike and I took two weeks of vacation, the first of which we spent at Emerald Isle, where the ocean may change from jade and turquoise to gray to cerulean, all in one lovely, timeless day. Leila, Shiloh, Jagger and Savannah joined us overnight early in our visit. We had a belated birthday dinner for Leila at a nice restaurant in Beaufort. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Monday, October 31, 2011. Moses has developed a strange habit of substituting the first syllable of certain words with "Mc". For example, he consistently makes the following adjustments:. I'm pretty sure that he knows the correct pronunciations, but he still insists on saying things this way. Maybe it's his Irish heritage manifesting itself. and the only apparent manifestation of it, at that! Trick or treat, trick or treat, give me something good for me.". Monday, October 24, 2011. Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Queen of the Meadow. An August 2011 tiger swallowtail sips the sweet pink duskiness of Joe-Pye. When I was young and green and growing (many years ago!
