Out of Sanity since 2005. Archive for March, 2011. Laquo; Older Entries. March 23, 2011. Happy Birthday to an amazing, wonderful friend, mother, and teacher! Why don’t you mosey on over to her blog. And leave a comment? That’s all she wants for her birthday. Well, that, a big cup of coffee, and to be woken up REALLY early to a loud, boisterous, and off-key rendition of Happy Birthday. Out of Sanity since 2005. Archive for February, 2011. Laquo; Older Entries. I’ll hate myself in the morning. February 16, 2011. Two days ago, my friend over at ima2seven. Forwarded me an invite to what looks like an amazing, free event in the city. I haven’t been out in the city in a long time. I really want to go. I really SHOULD go. It may not be Once In A Lifetime, but it’s a Long Time Coming. I’m not going. I went to a bookstore. But I still want to go. But I just can’t do it. You should go. You ...

Out of Sanity since 2005. ImmahLady: (Pronounced EE Mah; hebrew for Mom) That’s me, your cruise director. In a former life I wore dry clean only clothing, had a killer commute to the big city, and never had to share a computer. Now, I’m a super-busy SAHM, who occasionally misses the wardrobe, but if you’ve had to take three kids to the dry cleaners you know it’s just not worth it. My Guy: He’s cute and dreamy, and all mine. Got the jewelery to prove it ladies, so hands off! The Nephew: He will acquire ma...

All Victories: Having written
http://allvictories.blogspot.com/2012/06/having-written.html
What works, what inspires in parenting and life. Wednesday, June 6, 2012. A week ago, I was planning a blog post in my head as I moved through the afternoon routine with the kids. And then I left B.A. alone in the living room with a full pitcher of milk and my laptop. So thank you to the wonderful L.L. who has loaned me her laptop for a bit. It's a rare friend indeed who will commiserate over a carelessly destroyed computer and then say, "Hey, would you like to borrow mine? I recently heard a podcast whe...

All Victories: For posterity
http://allvictories.blogspot.com/2013/02/for-posterity.html
What works, what inspires in parenting and life. Thursday, February 7, 2013. I didn't leave the house for three days last week. It started raining on Wednesday, and then Shabbat afternoon found me increasingly irritated with my children. I kept stalking away from the Shabbat table, wineglass in hand, to go hide out in my bedroom with the napping baby. And really, my kids weren't doing much except being 5 and 3. Normal kid stuff. Oh no, I thought with dawning dread. I am their mother! I hate your guts!

All Victories: A legacy
http://allvictories.blogspot.com/2013/10/a-legacy.html
What works, what inspires in parenting and life. Tuesday, October 8, 2013. I wasn't expecting the arab vegetable vendor to start chatting with me about Rav Ovadia Yosef. We've never talked about anything more personal than the price of sweet potatoes. But there we were, in the rare early-morning quiet of the shuk. We stood and talked about the Torah giant whose Jerusalem funeral yesterday drew over half a million mourners. He was a good person. But he is a young man himself! And twins on the way? A good ...

All Victories: Fumbling along in Hebrew
http://allvictories.blogspot.com/2012/08/fumbling-along-in-hebrew.html
What works, what inspires in parenting and life. Thursday, August 9, 2012. Fumbling along in Hebrew. I didn’t want it to be this way. Some new immigrants to Israel seek out English-speaking communities where they can get along without much Hebrew. I didn’t want that. I hoped for more of an immersion in Israeli life. But I fell in love with Jerusalem and especially with Nachlaot. What about the Israelis in my neighborhood? I would like to practice speaking Hebrew with my daughters, but they refuse. Th...

All Victories: On grief
http://allvictories.blogspot.com/2012/07/on-grief.html
What works, what inspires in parenting and life. Thursday, July 26, 2012. I lost a friend last month. His name was Moshe and he was 38 years old when he died suddenly. I thought of him like a brother. The funeral was on a hot day in June. A traditional Jewish funeral is a stripped-down affair under any circumstance, but Jerusalem funerals are even more so. We don’t use coffins—the body is placed directly into the earth. I find the simplicity comforting. No swelling music. ...Moshe’s body was wrappe...
