Lean bureaucracies, digital government, and impeccable execution. Paper Parity and Digital Services. The government needs to give up on the idea of parity between paper forms and electronic forms. Lean bureaucracies, digital government, and impeccable execution. Manifesto for Digital Government. We believe that a new approach is needed to advance the U.S. federal government into the digital age and to reform federal information technology. We believe in these principles:. Delivery is what matters. Plans, policies, politics are all less important than delivering results to the public we serve. Design services for the public. We learn from technology companies, startups, foreign governments, academi...

Cancel Successful Projects, Not Failing Ones | Government IT

Lean bureaucracies, digital government, and impeccable execution. Cancel Successful Projects, Not Failing Ones. Government oversight bodies take great pride in canceling failing projects. They consider it a measure of success. What are oversight bodies for? But isn’t that throwing more money into a wasteful program? No – what has been spent so far is a sunk cost, and there may be some salvageable assets. Doesn’t the program’s failure to date mean that it is poorly managed? Why cancel a successful program?

Lean bureaucracies, digital government, and impeccable execution. BI-Driven Development: Testing Outcomes Rather Than Outputs. The Art of Business Value. I – almost jokingly – tossed out the term. BiDD) This was a play on the idea of Test Driven Development (TDD), where developers first write automated tests for their code, and only then. Test-driven development measures outputs – does the code I wrote do what I was told it needs to do? This entry was posted in Uncategorized. November 26, 2016. Who’...

Who’s overseeing the overseers? | Government IT
https://governmentittoday.wordpress.com/2015/05/25/whos-overseeing-the-overseers
Lean bureaucracies, digital government, and impeccable execution. Who’s overseeing the overseers? If that – ahem – ever happened, then given the power oversight bodies have, they would essentially be ordering the programs to waste money. They might also add risk to programs. Since the job of the oversight body is ostensibly the opposite – to prevent waste and mismanagement – this could be a critical issue. What controls are in place to prevent this? How can we improve this? Petworth, Washington, DC, USA.
