sometimes you just can't leave well enough alone
inveterate tinkerer: January 2009
http://inveteratetinkerer.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Sometimes you just can't leave well enough alone. Bitten by the home brewing bug. I've always been into beer. Well, not always. I've been into beer since I discovered real beer, beer that had been brewed with taste - with the exquisite experience that accompanies the enjoyment of a true beer - rather than profit motive in mind. I remember thinking, "Hey, that might actually be worth it.". The thing is, nobody in the region (as in, no other micro-brewer) seems to share my particular taste in beer. I f...
inveterate tinkerer: Do you REALLY need an airbag?
http://inveteratetinkerer.blogspot.com/2009/07/do-you-really-need-airbag.html
Sometimes you just can't leave well enough alone. Do you REALLY need an airbag? Actually, I just wanted to post this here so I could find it again. Driver wearing 5 point harness walks away. Laughing) from a 55 mph head-on in a Miata. Racing steering wheel installed. It's kinda funny to watch the passenger bag blow. Heh. Edit: NOT wearing a helmet. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Do you REALLY need an airbag? Throttle Body and IAC (ISCV) Cleaning. I Hate VB (Dont You? Salon: How the World Works.

Sometimes you just can't leave well enough alone. Throttle Body and IAC (ISCV) Cleaning. Yes, that really is my car with the throttle body out and lying on the ground. I have no idea why there's a pile of rusting bike parts littering my work area, I need to clean up. Box that shit up. Yeah. For the record, although you do see the Haynes manual pictured, it was pretty useless. This article. Is vastly more useful. Remember, of course, this is for the 1.6 - I don't know if the 1.8 is different. The Haynes m...

Sometimes you just can't leave well enough alone. Cleveland to Seattle: Part 1 - The Preparation. It's been a few years since we moved to Seattle (or more precisely, the Pacific Northwest, or something, since we aren't technically in a Seattle zipcode) but since someone finally expressed interest in our epic, uh, adventure, I need to write this up. Plus I found exactly zero information on this when I was searching before, so. Besides, it was kind of fun to see how little we could do it with. Your tow veh...

Sometimes you just can't leave well enough alone. Text Message Spam: the Other White Meat. Unlike email, though, SMS messages generally cost the user of the handset, whether it's a fixed per-message charge, or a part of a monthly text message package. This, combined with the audible alert that comes with a handset text message, make this a particularly infuriating problem. We'll see if this solves the problem for me, but it looks promising. The End of the Great American Love Affair? Since we're so awfull...

the nonserious cyclist: Back in the saddle
http://nonseriouscyclist.blogspot.com/2009/03/back-in-saddle.html
Because cycling is serious business. Wednesday, March 4, 2009. Back in the saddle. Well, against my doctor's orders, I took the Redline out for my usual 8.5 mile routine of mixed trails and singletrack. It was an incredible early spring day, and I was cooking in a light hoodie (we here at the nonserious cyclist spurn any kind of obviously cycling-specific clothing). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Cleveland to Seattle: Part 2 - The Logistics. I have migrated to a new website. Back in the saddle.

Because cycling is serious business. Sunday, November 16, 2008. Once again: another Day of Reckoning. Man, these just creep up on me. Almost exclusively a mix of short duration, high intensity and long duration, low intensity cardio these past two weeks, with some weight training thrown in. Current body weight: 200.5. Hmm. Friday, November 7, 2008. Friday meditation: Confronting the Cars. Stumbled upon this interesting piece. Is it that simple? Saturday, November 1, 2008. Numbers for this weekend. Last w...

the nonserious cyclist: September 2008
http://nonseriouscyclist.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Because cycling is serious business. Tuesday, September 23, 2008. I was climbing out of the small valley where the Soos creek trail runs, and my legs were burning. My breath seared my throat as it rattled past my teeth, and I pondered the replacement of my front chainring with something a little more reasonable. Only another 50 feet of climbing, I tell myself. Only another 40. It's times like this that I remember my childhood. I remember the running, especially. I'm sure my teacher would be proud. I've f...

Because cycling is serious business. Wednesday, January 7, 2009. New toy: Redline D440 29er. Well, it's about time I said something about my latest two-wheeled conveyance (if such it can indeed be called). This is actually a result of my generous corporate sponsorship for the upcoming Kona 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo mountain bike race. I'd like the opportunity to thank my employer. With that out of the way, what about the bike? A mechanical disc brake setup made far more sense. I wouldn't be scoring ...

http://nonseriouscyclist.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Because cycling is serious business. Thursday, July 9, 2009. I can't believe how long I've been off the bike, and today's excursion on the Redline made me wonder what's wrong with me. I have a lovely bike, I need to ride it. It's such a different feeling than driving a powered vehicle - you are limited only by your own will-power, not the diameter of your throttle body / mass rate of flow through the engine. The blackberries along Tapeworm / Towers of Power have a long way to go to ripen.

Because cycling is serious business. Thursday, February 19, 2009. I know nobody cares, but the reason for my inactivity stems from a severe fracture of the humerus, misdiagnosis, undermedication, and the general failure of the western medical industrial complex to respond appropriately to a serious injury sustained while snowboarding. So I poured myself a glass of whiskey. To sanitize my lockblade. And then removed the infectious material. I didn't notice pain. Yes, there was pain, but I ...Within a week...

Because cycling is serious business. Friday, August 29, 2008. Technium CityLite dumpster rescue. I'm not sure I would have turned such a complete and (from the pictures) barely ridden geared road bike into a fixed gear, but that's just me. Regardless, there's no arguing that he did a fantastic job with the frame, and almost certainly spent a lot more time with it than I did. I also can't deny that it was helpful to have someone else's project as a reference. Which is why I'm posting this. Uh. I did spray...

Jeudi 25 septembre 2014.

And I have live-out-loud boys, a thoughtful-if-tromping husband who stretches my thoughts to the larger world, a house which drives me to distraction, and a Welsh puppy who noses my elbow and licks my toes. So not yet, shouty post. I am adamant. Despite the fact that it is the reason I have not posted these many months. I am adamant. You. Will become an actual post one day. Sometimes you just can't leave well enough alone. Cleveland to Seattle: Part 2 - The Logistics. Well, I've probably avoided writing about this part because it's simply the hardest, most complicated, and most important. Either that or I'm stupidly busy or extremely lazy. Or, perhaps some combination thereof. Provided your vehicles are in good order (see: Preparation) you should be ready to figure out how far you are willing to drive in one day. Fading To Black
Sunday, June 21, 2009. People come and go. They tell me about the flow. I just nod and smile back at them. They ask me how are you doing. I mumble back, "The same.". For how do I tell them about the state that I'm in. As much as I run,. I cant get away,. From the shadow that is cast upon my world. As much as I try,. In the end I find,. I'm still right here where I used to be. How can I tell them that my watch does not tick,. Without them laughing and telling me its just spoilt. Is it a spell cast upon me?
