Charlene's Oelwein Blog: August 2014
http://oelwein.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 30, 2014. Change strategies. Change texts. Change technology. Change schedules. Change furniture. Change is in the wind these days. Those changes are easy to implement. The changes that are hard are changes in schedules, teaching/learning strategies, and content. I haven't seen much change in the way the school day is scheduled. Bells still ring. Students dutifully march from one subject to another. Collaboration is tough because of time and scheduling. 4 Teachers have changed. Many ...

Charlene's Oelwein Blog: Hots Trends at OCSD
http://oelwein.blogspot.com/2014/08/hots-trends-at-ocsd.html
Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Hots Trends at OCSD. At last night's work session the school board had a look at the data results from last year. Good things are happening! Note: This isn't a board statement, this is my observation of the data.). 1 An upward trend noted for the students enrolling for post secondary education. 2 An upward trend for reading proficiency. 3 No noticeable difference in reading proficiency because of family income. Sunday, September 14, 2014. Stop With the Labels! I attended a meeting recently where people kept talking about quality teachers. They wanted quality teachers in leadership positions. Quality was used as a label to separate teachers into two groups.the quality leaders and the "not so quality" followers. Groan. I want quality teachers who prefer to devote all of their time and energy to students in their classroom. I want model teachers who enjoy demonstrating teaching skills. Sunday, September 14, 2014.

Sunday, July 27, 2014. School Board Ethics and 39 Steps. Do you remember the old Alfred Hitchcock thriller, "39 Steps? Board members need to see that the schools are run properly - not run them. Seeing that the schools are run properly is only one of the board's 39 ethical steps. Navigating the waters of seeing that the schools are run properly is a lot like my white water rafting trip down the Colorado River.some calm stretches, some rapids. Coming out on the other side is worth the trip. I’m all ...

Charlene's Oelwein Blog: Reading Rocks!
http://oelwein.blogspot.com/2014/09/reading-rocks.html
Monday, September 8, 2014. Every year, the state looks at test scores for all students. Schools where test scores don't meet state targets are listed as SINA schools - or School In Need of Improvement. It is very difficult to stay OFF the SINA list since state targets grow increasingly difficult each year. But our high school readers have done so.and have done so for 4 consecutive years! Kudos to the high school staff and students! Monday, September 08, 2014. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
