Cistin Chonamara

Random ramblings from the Irish countryside. Has it really been 6 months since I last posted? Eep Well, in my defence, 2012 was a very busy year for me. Not so much personally as professionally. I can honestly say that last year was the busiest year I have EVER had. It didn't completely suck, but there were some hairy moments when I worried that there simply weren't enough hours in the day to get everything I needed to do done (dontcha just hate that feeling? I want to try my hand at crochet now. I u...

Cistin Chonamara: June 2011

http://www.irishcountrykitchen.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Random ramblings from the Irish countryside. This is all that's left of the Blue Hubbard Squashes we planted. 6 were planted, but only 2 germinated. Unfortunately, some bird mistook the little seed tray for the salad bar because it dug up one of the seedlings and ate it. It picked at the tomato seedlings and some of the herbs as well. I never thought I'd have to worry about birds in my back garden! And all the way from France, Jacques Amyot. 10 shallots, thinly sliced. 2 sticks of celery, thinly sliced.

Cistin Chonamara: July 2012

http://www.irishcountrykitchen.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Random ramblings from the Irish countryside. And I have quite adventurous palates - we're quite willing to try new foods that we've never eaten before, which is why we tried The Cedar Tree in St. Andrew's Street (no website, unfortunately). Since we didn't know what would be good, we got a Mezze platter - which was a little bit of everything. Hummus, babganoush, kefta, tabouleh, spicy potatoes, assorted pickles, garlic potatoes, lamb and chicken dishes as well as pitta bread. It's a sweet shop called the...

Cistin Chonamara: May 2012

http://www.irishcountrykitchen.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Random ramblings from the Irish countryside. Starlings, a sad tale. As the title suggests, this is another bird-related post (I'm not obsessed with birds. Really, I'm not). It's also a little bit sad. We have an abundance of starlings (more specifically, European Starlings, Sturnus vulgaris). I figured I'd let Mother Nature sort it out. I had never seen this bird before in my life. Naturally I was excited to discover a "new" bird species, but I had no clue what it was! It's a small migratory bird that's f...

Cistin Chonamara: Yankee Candy

http://www.irishcountrykitchen.blogspot.com/2012/07/yankee-candy.html

Random ramblings from the Irish countryside. And I went in to town to do a little shopping today. We saw a flyer for a record sale in Temple Bar, but when we got there, we couldn't find it (we didn't have the good sense to bring the flyer with us, of course). We did find this place however. I found Reeses peanut butter cups, Jolly Ranchers, Hersheys (I have to admit - I hate Hersheys candy. It's the worst-tasting chocolate, in my opinion). Of course, I had to buy some! Grumpy, Old and Female.
