Irregular Analyses: Snyder Rifle (urrrgh)

http://irregularanalyses.blogspot.com/2006/01/snyder-rifle-urrrgh.html

Tuesday, January 03, 2006. Jack Snyder's one of the good guys. Julian sitting in for Andrew Sullivan flags up. The fact that he's got a new co-written book out the warns that when it comes to the old Democratic Peace theory, all may not be well in the garden of shag. The Cato event that's on next week may well be worth checking out if you have the time. On a similar note, anyone who hasn't read Fareed Zakaria's "The Future of Freedom". er. should read it. Irregular Analyses: Burnin' Down the House

http://irregularanalyses.blogspot.com/2006/01/burnin-down-house.html

Tuesday, January 03, 2006. Burnin' Down the House. Well, this isn't very good is it? A prized collection of antiquarian books - including a rare edition of works by Sir Walter Scott and a complete collection of the writings of Rudyard Kipling - was destroyed. Mr Linklater said the destruction of irreplaceable bound manuscripts of books by his father, Eric Linklater, was "a devastating loss". Though that may have been part of a fevered dream, I'm not sure. Irregular Analyses: February 2005

Monday, February 28, 2005. Requiem Mass for The Naked Civil Servant. Watched The Fog of War. Interesting stuff. Ironically, the most interesting parts did not deal with Vietnam - the Second World War sections were far and away the most intriguing. Incidentally, of McNamara's eleven lessons - which range from the very, very important to the quite banal - it seems to me that the most important, especially now, is the first: Empathize with your enemy. Irregular Analyses: She was too old for Yentl...

http://irregularanalyses.blogspot.com/2006/07/she-was-too-old-for-yentl.html

Friday, July 28, 2006. She was too old for Yentl. That there has been yet another case of a gay military Arabist being discharged from service. Now, it's unlikely that we are going to lose the war on the basis of 55 discharged gay linguists, but it's pretty hard to argue with Joyner when he notes that:. Well, quite. The story is not made any less whimsical by this delightful footnote:. Excuse me, are we a little teapot? Of course, it's a much kinder, gentler military these days. It wasn't all that lo...

nicstorian: June 2005

http://nicstorian.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 04, 2005. I really only know of two paradigms to think about military theory. I wonder what some other interesting ones might be. The first is the one that sorta came to me from reading. The second is the idea of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation warfare developed by Byrd. Posted by Nic @ 2:26 PM. The basic point made by the blog is that if you read one of the more popular works on the civil war, i.e. The Battle Cry of Freedom. By Herman Hattaway and Arthur Jones. Suddenly, Halleck became ...

Tuesday, May 31, 2005. Recently I've been reading Historian's Fallacies by David Hackett Fischer. It has sorta been shaking things up in the ol' brain and has sorta made me want to redefine the terms of this whole endevour. In the meanwhile a few quick thoughts and links:. Here's a speech given by John Gaddis, cold war historian, at middlebury college. I thought this was a very good speech for several reasons which I will not elaborate on. So I guess 1 link, and no thoughts. Posted by Nic @ 12:53 AM.

The Radical Centrist: Bolton and Wolfiwitz and Their New Homes

http://radicalcentre.blogspot.com/2005/03/bolton-and-wolfiwitz-and-their-new.html

An independent perspective on foreign affairs, history, and culture. Thursday, March 17, 2005. Bolton and Wolfiwitz and Their New Homes. First John Bolton to the UN, and now Paul Wolfiwitz to head the World Bank. Is this evidence of the continued neo-con ascendancy in the Bush administration? Seems to think so, as do the Europeans. Disagree. And of course, they are correct. Because neocons don't believe these institutions are particularly relevant. I am skeptical but optimistic about both. That being sai...

The Irregular Anomaly

Monday, 29 October 2012. Fixing Analysis Manager Cube Role security. I don't often use Analysis Manager but today it would not let me edit a Database Role correctly and when I looked at the Cube Role it was just blank. Eventually discovered that the cube had some roles assigned to it that had been deleted but because the roles no longer exist you can't update the roles or even edit the cube without getting errors. This is a bug in Analysis Services 2000. Sunday, 28 October 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
