Iain's Book Reviews: Starship Troopers review
http://isgbbooks.blogspot.com/2014/04/starship-troopers-review.html
Saturday, April 26, 2014. To end on a positive note I'll say this. When I finally finished this novel I had a brief spark inside of me. For once in my entire career, I felt a sense of pride in being a soldier. No military training, no officer, and certainly no civilian has ever made me feel as proud of my profession as that novel ha. Iain's Book Reviews: A Dance with Dragons
http://isgbbooks.blogspot.com/2014/01/a-dance-with-dragons.html
Friday, January 24, 2014. A Dance with Dragons. Dear George R.R. Martin. Hello My name is Inigo Montoya. You may have killed my favorite character. Prepare to. Roll in dough as we continue buying your brick-sized creations. The above is what you'd expect from a book titled "A Dance with Dragons." Disclaimer:. For the vast majority of this book's pages, none of it happens.). He showed me that it was okay to hold fantasy to high standards, for crying out loud! This overload of description of landscapes, cl...

Tuesday, October 31, 2000. The Witcher Enhanced Edition 9.0. I was somewhat skeptical originally because the last to forays I made into PC RPGs were quite disappointing(NWN and Titan Quest). I waited until the enhanced version came out and the reviews were so good plus I had some free time before I started my masters program that I finally decided to go for it. Great value for the money if you enjoy RPG or adventure gaming! 1600x1200 maximum settings (all monitor could handle). Core 2 Quad Q9550. So as y...

Iain's Book Reviews: March 2014
http://isgbbooks.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 6, 2014. The Malazan Book of the Fallen review. I’m going to state it right out – The Malazan Book of the Fallen. Is the most ambitious epic fantasy series ever written – this is both its greatest strength and greatest weakness. Rather than ambition, fans of epic fantasy are much more likely to honor tradition and nostalgia, but the genre has come far from where it was effectively defined by The Lord of the Rings. Certainly meets both in numerous ways, it really is much more. World has it...

Iain's Book Reviews: Stranger in a Strange Land
http://isgbbooks.blogspot.com/2014/04/stranger-in-strange-land.html
Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Stranger in a Strange Land. Apparently a classic of the sci-fi cannon, I'd never heard of this book until it came up on a book club here. It took me a long time to read only because of lack of time, and a rather annoying trait the author has that I'll go into later. Stranger in a Strange Land. He's completely ignorant of human ways, of human concepts - things like jealousy, possessiveness etc. are all alien to him. He doesn't understand religions and he has never laughed. Is enj...

Iain's Blog: July 2015
http://isgb2.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. Top 100 videogames 2015 edition. The feeling inspired most intensely by Worms Armageddon. 99 Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium. Has its fans, a great many of whom jumped on when the series went MMO, but it's never been a franchise uttered in the same breath as Square Enix's best and Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium. Releasing hot on the heels of Final Fantasy VI. Didn't help. The irony is that Sega's magnum RPG opus does pretty much everything Final Fantasy.
