The Gravedigger’s Owl. Once there was an old gravedigger, working late into the night. It was Halloween, and the full moon pushed long shadows out from underneath the trees. One fall evening, a long time ago, there was a lonely old farmer returning from a hard day tending his fields. It was November 1st, and he’d been busy preparing for winter. Exhausted, he came back to his barn only to find a young girl sitting in some haystacks. She looked to be about 12-years old. She was delicate and slight and she had short black hair and smooth, pale skin that reflected the moon through the barn windows. The farmer was flabbergasted and demanded an explanation! The girl’s heart ached.
