untitled 'supermarket nightmare' #2: Chapter 6: OHP
http://swedesofmystery.blogspot.com/2007/09/chapter-6-ohp.html
Monday, 3 September 2007. I knock on the Turtle’s door. It is 12.07 pm. I am 23 minutes late. I enter her office. It is dark inside. The light from an overhead projector casts a white square on the wall at the end of the office. There are coloured lines and shapes projected the wall, and something written about a ‘Star model’. The door closes behind me and the Turtle steps into the light. You’re late, she says. Yes, I say. Sorry. Silence fills the room. I haven’t seen one of those for ages, I say. Time o...

http://swedesofmystery.blogspot.com/2007/09/chapter-12-museum-piece.html
Saturday, 8 September 2007. Chapter 12: museum piece. There is another room I visit regularly. I am collecting things there, bright and shiny things. Adobo. Cigarette. Dinner. Carburettor. Rings. Letter. Dimples. Tita. Hands, in the café. Lunchbreak. Best shirt. Cake. The Philippines. Holiday. Posted by Duncan Cheshire. I still think about you, you know. Sometimes, when the rest of Carol is asleep, I am awake. I think about the way you touched me, and how you'd look at me sometimes. Emma J. Lannie. The m...

untitled 'supermarket nightmare' #2: Chapter 5: 7 minutes
http://swedesofmystery.blogspot.com/2007/09/chapter-5-seven-minutes.html
Saturday, 1 September 2007. Chapter 5: 7 minutes. I go to the Turtle’s office. I am 7 minutes late. Carmella is leaving the staff room as I pass. Hello, she says. Hello, I say. Where are you going? I’m going to see the Turtle. I’m going to quit. I think. Oh, because of what we talked about? She puts her hand on my arm. It feels warm through my sleeve. Don’t rush into anything, she says. It’s a big decision. Make sure it’s what you want to do. Think about it. Carmella squeezes my arm. Think about it.

untitled 'supermarket nightmare' #2: Chapter 4: what Linda did
http://swedesofmystery.blogspot.com/2007/08/chapter-4-what-linda-did.html
Friday, 31 August 2007. Chapter 4: what Linda did. What did Linda do? Linda used the system to her advantage, says ‘Cock legs’. She didn’t fight against it, or let it grind her down; she waited and then took advantage. You should ask her about it. She’s not here, I say. What do you know about it? I understand less than 22% of what ‘Cock legs’ is talking about. So what do I do? Ask the Turtle. She can’t deny you. It’s in the regulations. Thanks, I say. I check the time. It is 11.51 am. Emma J. Lannie.

untitled 'supermarket nightmare' #2: Chapter 7: time off
http://swedesofmystery.blogspot.com/2007/09/chapter-7-time-off.html
Monday, 3 September 2007. Chapter 7: time off. The Turtle turns off the overhead projector. The white square on the wall fades away to a blue imprint on my retinas. The room is dark. I cannot see a thing. Something brushes against my arm. Whispers the Turtle, 6 inches from my left ear. She turns the light on, and opens the filing cabinet next to the door. I’ll have to check the regulations, she says. Uh-huh, she says, hmmm. After 8 minutes she looks up. The Turtle looks at me expectantly. I smell a rat!

untitled 'supermarket nightmare' #2: Chapter 1: I will quit today. I will.
http://swedesofmystery.blogspot.com/2007/08/chapter-1-i-will-quit-today-i-will.html
Tuesday, 28 August 2007. Chapter 1: I will quit today. I will. I work all morning. I go to the storeroom. The storeroom door has given way due to the weight of produce behind it, which spills out into the corridor. Other replenishment assistants scramble over a mound of cauliflowers and cabbages to retrieve the supplies they need. My cloth becomes so worn that is unusable, and I fetch another from the supply cupboard. I consider wearing my sunglasses on the shop floor. Do you know what time it is? And I ...
