Airline Review: Qantas Premium Economy. The Premium Economy section is located on the upper deck of this big aircraft between Business and a small outpost of Economy. Qantas' version of Premium Economy has distinctly wider seating than Economy, and more generous legroom. Tray tables and video screens are concealed beneath armrests, leaving plenty of width for a larger-than-average person like me. ". Aerohaveno: April 2014
http://aerohaveno.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, 27 April 2014. Topokki in the Heart of Seoul. On my first night in Seoul, South Korea's capital, I didn't want to hang around my hotel. So after glancing at a promotional booklet about the city's cuisine, I headed to a famous food alley in the Sindang-dong neighbourhood, known as Topokki Town. I had a T-money card with credit on it for the local public transport, so there was nothing stopping me. The first thing I encountered, though, was this:. I was unsure how to choose a place to eat. I in...

Monday, 30 March 2015. Reviews: Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2015 (Part 1). Trades Hall lit up for the 2015 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of Australia's biggest cultural events. Every autumn it takes over the central city, inhabiting numerous performance spaces within the grand Melbourne Town Hall along with various theatres, pubs, bars and other venues. I'm reviewing for The Age. Newspaper again this year, but Narrelle Harris.

Friday, 27 February 2015. Melbourne on a White Night 2015 (Part 1). White Night was an instant success in Melbourne. In its first year. 2013, it attracted over 300,000 participants to art exhibits spread across the city centre from 7pm to 7am. I missed its second staging in 2014 because I was in Hawaii. That time it attracted over 500,000 people, and it was a a very crowded experience from all accounts. The ghostly theme continued next door at Hamer Hall where we witnessed Ghostly Machines. Inside the ga...
Aerohaveno: November 2014

Monday, 24 November 2014. Stars Above Hollywood: Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles, USA. If ever there was a case of a good thing arising from a bad deed, it's the Griffith Observatory in the hills above Los Angeles. Both the observatory and Griffith Park, in which it sits, were donated to the city around the turn of the 20th century by the wealthy Griffith J Griffith. The Welsh immigrant to the USA had done well as a mining expert, and wanted to give some of his prosperity back to his adopted city.

Friday, 30 May 2014. Fashion Victim: Noise and the Melbourne CBD. I’m a fashion victim. But not in an actively chosen way, more a passive-smoking way. I have no interest in fashion, but it’s been wafting right into my face for years now. Over the last year, it’s been almost unbearable. I live in an apartment in Melbourne’s Central Business District (what Americans would call the Downtown), across the street from the former General Post Office building. Construction sites in full swing in the neighbourhood.

Friday, 28 February 2014. The Unpublished 18: Bars of Perth. I visited Perth, Western Australia in late 2011 on the Indian Pacific train, and researched this article about the city's bars while I was there. However, due to a change of editor it was never published. So here it is now, for your drinking pleasure. Aerohaveno: Vegetarian (More or Less) in Germany
http://aerohaveno.blogspot.com/2015/05/vegetarian-more-or-less-in-germany.html
Saturday, 2 May 2015. Vegetarian (More or Less) in Germany. In January, I went vegetarian. Well, more or less. And I decided we'd cut right back on eating meat, partly for animal welfare reasons and partly for environmental reasons. However, I knew I'd probably eat meat occasionally. In my travel writer job, for example, I need to taste various types of food in order to write about it. Apparently things had greatly improved since the days when the single vegetarian option might be a side salad. Not only ...

Sunday, 31 August 2014. The Bed Report 9: Ibis London Blackfriars Accommodation Review. When I first visited London back in the 1990s, I spent most of my time in the West End or the City. In recent visits, however, I've spent more and more time south of the Thames and in East London, as those areas have been regenerated and moved onto the traveller's radar. As you can see, the hotel's exterior on Blackfriars Road doesn't look like much. But the interior is distinctly cool and contemporary:. Speaking of t...
