edward johnson reports: November 2008

http://www.jamesedwardjohnson.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Dispatches from Around the Globe. Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Full time for the Springbok? BBC News, Cape Town. In the face of intense political lobbying, the South African Rugby Union (Saru) has finally decided to replace the 102-year old emblem of the national team, the Springbok. Given South Africa's traumatic, racially divided past it is hardly surprising that apartheid-era symbols, emblems and names are still highly contentious issues. Nelson Mandela famously donned the Springbok shirt in 1995.

edward johnson reports: "The Issues" (part one)

http://www.jamesedwardjohnson.blogspot.com/2009/06/issues-part-one.html

Dispatches from Around the Globe. Wednesday, June 10, 2009. The Issues" (part one). With this blog, particularly in reference to my time in South Africa, I have tried to place the focus on people and issues here in South Africa that the outside world should know about, particularly my primary audience in the United States.  As my time in Johannesburg nears its end, I would like to share how the big issues of South Africa have personally affected me as a person that I am. Which roughly means "I am, becaus...

Dispatches from Around the Globe. Sunday, August 30, 2009. As prepared for delivery). It has been quite a while since I have been able to say those words to this group. Pastor Chatman asked me to deliver the sermon today, and I will be honest, at first I agreed and then for a couple of days I had wished I had not agreed. One thing that I have realized is that I have a very difficult time sharing the specifics of my time in South Africa. I do not know why, but it is just the way I feel. Well, Pastor Chatm...

Dispatches from Around the Globe. Sunday, May 10, 2009. As I think of Mothers’ Day I begin to ask myself, “If I could give one present to all of the moms in Africa and the developing world, what would I give them? As we attend church more Mothers’ Day, hopefully we can remember those mother’s who labor and work and sweat out of love for their families – all of them, everywhere around the world. Here we go!: May 2009

http://maryrk45.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 14, 2009. Where has the time gone? Last night I made a cheesecake for some friends in the student housing part of the church. I am really enjoying being able to spend time with young adults and fellowship with them. And my cheesecake was delicious! The Italian volunteer, Cecile, made crepes. The young adult group that I am a part of knows how to eat! Thank you all for your support! Mary Mary Quite Contrary. Wednesday, May 6, 2009. History of the Congregation: Nuestro Salvador. Here we go!: April 2009

http://maryrk45.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 30, 2009. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God. In the sixth chapter of Matthew, he talks about not worrying ourselves with posesions nor. Our physical needs, but seeking first the Kingdom of God and he will provide us with the rest. Many of my worries faded with the warm welcomes I received. As my worries faded and I grew more comfortable with the language,. Verse of the 6. Mary Mary Quite Contrary. Monday, April 13, 2009. Parents' Visit and Uruguay. Saturday, August 30, 2008. So Much Going On! It has been quite difficult to find time to get to a computer when the Locutorio is open. We have been very busy doing so many interesting things. I will try to recap the last few days. Wednesday night we went to dinner at a local restaurant because we wanted to get steakk, since that is very famous in Argentina and pretty cheap! Here we go!: A quick hello.

http://maryrk45.blogspot.com/2009/03/quick-hello.html

Wednesday, March 25, 2009. The fall weather is beautiful here. and hopefully this weekend will still be beach weather! I cannot believe my parents board the plane in a WEEK to come see me. I also cannot believe that I (along with my twin sister) will be turning 25 so soon. Unfortunately, Laura cannot make the trip down here, nor I up there, to celebrate our quarter of a century mark together, but I get the parents! Tuesday, January 27, 2009. Uruguay vs. Argentina. Mary Mary Quite Contrary. Tuesday, January 20, 2009. I was told they were supposed to serve coffee and breakfast, but they ran out of time. I now understand why we took time out on the wedding day to take a nap! Mary Mary Quite Contrary. Monday, January 12, 2009. I also requested quite a few things for myself including salad dressing, maple syrup and some clothes that I decided I missed from home. I got spoiled for Christmas a couple days late. :). Review...

Here we go!: November 2008

http://maryrk45.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 19, 2008. As usual, more is happening than I can write in my blog. I still struggle with recognizing ALL of the blessings God has given this World. They appear so abundant in some places and seem so absent in others. But where one person sees an absence of material belongings, another can recognize an abundance of smiles and happiness. What have I been up to? We are working on getting things organized and on the computer. Thanks to my friend, Kayt, I got my Halloween candy and enjoyed...

http://maryrk45.blogspot.com/2009/04/parents-visit-and-uruguay.html

Monday, April 13, 2009. Parents' Visit and Uruguay. Holy Communion on Palm Sunday (above). Dad presenting Wilma with a shawl that the congregation in South Carolina (Lutheran Church by the Lake) prayed over the Sunday before. (Every stitch is a prayer, every hole is a hug.). My parents came and went in what seemed like no time at all. The visit was great, but it went by just way too fast with too much to do. My Dad talked a lot about their visit in the post below. I have noticed a growth in my patience i...

Here we go!: Post from Daddy

http://maryrk45.blogspot.com/2009/04/post-from-daddy.html

Monday, April 13, 2009. On our taxi ride from the airport we learned of two great tragedies in Argentina. The death of Alfonzine, the first freely elected president after the dictatorship of Peron, was a great emotional loss for many in the country. There was a national day of mourning with a large state funeral. The other tragedy was the lost of the Argentine soccer team to Bolivia, 6-1. When it came time to preach I tried to keep the message simple and I pray that God used it to speak to the hearts of ...

Sarah Fitch in Slovakia: I am definitely not Mary Poppins

http://sarahfitchinslovakia.blogspot.com/2009/05/i-am-definitely-not-mary-poppins.html

My year in Slovakia. Now located in Hybe, Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia. View my complete profile. Thursday, May 28, 2009. I am definitely not Mary Poppins. I am standing in a park holding an unconsolable child that is screaming for his momma. I don't know Slovak past counting, naming colors, and maybe a handful of verbs I can't conjugate. I still don't have official legal rights to be in this country. I said we could go get a coke. June 26, 2009 at 11:57 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I'd say che...

Tuesday, March 1, 2011. We Are Not Alone. Out of trillions of solar systems that have planets and habitable zones like ours, why should ours be the only one with intelligent life?
