North of Home: March 2015

Saturday, March 14, 2015. The Tree of Death and Other Stories from the Garden. We have had the most amazing weather this past week. It's been warm and sunny, with bright blue skies. The earth is warming, all of the snow has melted, and greenery is slowly coming back. The grass is finally starting to get a bit green. Just a big mess. This entire pile of leaves is all just what was in the garden. As well as these metal scraps and trash. The Tree of Death. Don't be underwhelmed. It originally was as...Serio...

Stirrin' The Pot: July 2014
http://eddiedalecarter.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 12, 2014. Judas, Betrayer of Christ or Misunderstood Disciple? I'd like to bounce a few things off all y'all that I been pondering. It's kinda different that most things I write about but it's been sticking in my head. Last month at our family reunion, we had us a small family Sunday Service out on the deck. Won't go into much detail but something said there stuck in my head about Jesus having a time line. So it got me to pondering, if He had a timeline, was Judas a part of it? Christ had ...

North of Home: Rain
http://northofhomeblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/rain.html
Monday, July 27, 2015. I love rainy days. I mean, I LOVE them. I've always dreamed of living in London or Seattle, where it rains all the time. The days are dark and gray, and I would never miss the sun. Well, almost never. I'm obsessed with Hunter Rain Boots. Starting at $150) but because I'm not insane, I'm cyber-stalking the perfect pair of black Hunter knockoffs at Target. The very air changes. Especially on those cooler rainy days. It becomes crisp, clean, and renewed. Everything smells ...The best ...

North of Home: At the Park
http://northofhomeblog.blogspot.com/2015/08/at-park.html
Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Summer is winding down quickly with "meet-the-teacher" scheduled for next week, and school starting the following Monday. I've got the boys' school supplies labeled and ready to go, their well-kid check-ups are done, and this weekend I will wash their new school clothes and get them hung up. It was positively lovely, and had me chomping at the bit even more than usual to drag out my bin of decorations, and purchase some pumpkins for the mantel. I will be purchasing pumpkin...

North of Home: Carne Guisada & Some Other Stuff
http://northofhomeblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/carne-guisada-some-other-stuff.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Carne Guisada and Some Other Stuff. Carne Guisada is food for the soul. I make this probably once a month, or more when the weather gets cold. It's easy to throw together, stews until the meat is tender, and makes enough for two meals for our family of 4. 2 pounds of stew meat, cut into bite size pieces. 1 14 oz can of tomato sauce. Fiesta Carne Guisada Seasoning. 2 cups warm water. I also painted the lids to my flour, sugar and cookie jars to add a pop of color. Once browned, s...

Stirrin' The Pot: May 2014
http://eddiedalecarter.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 21, 2014. In Flanders fields the poppies blow. Between the crosses, row on row,. That mark our place; and in the sky. The larks, still bravely singing, fly. Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago. We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,. Loved and were loved, and now we lie,. Take up our quarrel with the foe:. To you from failing hands we throw. The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die. We shall not sleep, though poppies grow. What you...

Stirrin' The Pot: June 2014
http://eddiedalecarter.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 26, 2014. Ever ponder certain things that get into your head when not much is going on? Stuff that when it pops in just won't go away? It happens to me all the time and it may be because I'm a very non linear thinker. I have a tendency to go off on a tangent from time to time but usually get back on track after a while. And on that note, here goes. What's so bad about being nonlinear? Why do we need a photo ID to cash a check but not to vote? What is the ' whole nine yards'. Does the schoo...

Stirrin' The Pot: February 2012

Sunday, February 26, 2012. A Man and His Deck. Have you ever wondered about the special relationship between a man and his deck? Have you ever noticed how men like to talk and compare the decks with each other and how some men are embarrassed by the size of their deck? There's a lot that can be said about a man and his deck. To me, I think it should be an ' extension' of himself. It should ' project out' letting the shape be prominent. Is size all that important? Lastly, a deck is a personal thing with a...

Stirrin' The Pot: The Left and Gun Control
http://eddiedalecarter.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-left-and-gun-control.html
Wednesday, January 9, 2013. The Left and Gun Control. Been hearing a lot these days about gun control on the news. Been reading about it, too. Not too sure what to think. Some say banning the high capacity clips will be plenty. Some same say we need to ban the AR platform rifles. Some even want to to ban all guns and confiscate them. But, I digress. Let's look at some of their arguments:. Gun control will reduce violent crime:. We have the police to protect us:. The average loss of life in a rage shootin...
