Shop made Fidgenian frame saw – part 3 | Je ne sais quoi Woodworking
http://www.jenesaisquoiwoodworking.com/shop-made-fidgenian-frame-saw-part-3
Je ne sais quoi Woodworking. Shop made Fidgenian frame saw – part 3. I had the pleasure of finishing this Tom Fidgen. Inspired frame saw over the weekend. If you missed the first two posts in this series, click these links:. I treated the Kershout with Tung Oil followed by a coat of Woodoc. One last foto pre-assembly. But you will have to wait with me to see if it works, otherwise we will revert to his version. Shop made Fidgenian frame saw – part 2. Roubo Sharpening bench – part 1. That’s spectacu...
Roubo sharpening bench – part 6 | Je ne sais quoi Woodworking

Je ne sais quoi Woodworking. Roubo sharpening bench – part 6. I really like my hand planes, but if I do not see them for the next few months it will be a blessing of note. After almost a month of hand planing these freaking beams for the top of the bench, I am sooooo over planing it is not funny. In the pictures below you can see the final phase of planing, which happened over the weekend. After establishing a reference edge, I used my shop made panel gauge. To mark out the opposite edge. 8230; and after.
Stanley no. 8 Jointer (ca 1899-1902) rehab | Je ne sais quoi Woodworking
http://www.jenesaisquoiwoodworking.com/stanley-no-8-jointer-ca-1899-1902-rehab
Je ne sais quoi Woodworking. Rehabilitation of old tools. Stanley no. 8 Jointer (ca 1899-1902) rehab. I bought this Stanley no. 8 from Patrick Leach way back in September 2014. I usually get him to hold on to tools I buy until we have enough merchandise to justify a fixed price shipment. The plane therefore only set foot on Namibian wood (so to speak) by end of October 2014. Here are a few pictures after it arrived at my shop. Back from Kenny at the Prop Shop. I usually treat the raw metal with rust conv...

Je ne sais quoi Woodworking. As self-proclaimed leader in the field of woodworking haute couture. I would like to introduce the next frontier in menuisier fashion. Last week the four Gramercy Tools holdfasts. I also took to the shaft section of the holdfasts with a rasps to improve it’s grip. It works like magic. Here are a few examples of a saw bench modeling the trend-setting footwear. My bench holdfasts live here. Two more sun ovens. Shop made Fidgenian Frame saw – part 1. That is a great idea, I have...
Roubo sharpening bench – part 4 | Je ne sais quoi Woodworking
http://www.jenesaisquoiwoodworking.com/roubo-sharpening-bench-part-4
Je ne sais quoi Woodworking. Roubo sharpening bench – part 4. It has been quite some time since I’ve had the opportunity to play in the shop. It felt very good to get into that zone again to progress this project. In the pictures you can see how I used the actual parts to mark out where the mortises should go in the legs. This picture shows one of the two batons (a Schwarzism) used to make the placement of the stretchers repeatable and in the exact same position relative to the apron. As so …. Thanks for...

Mulesaw: Treasure chest with curved lid part 8, assembly
http://mulesaw.blogspot.com/2015/07/treasure-chest-with-curved-lid-part-8.html
Being old fashioned, the cool way. Sunday, July 19, 2015. Treasure chest with curved lid part 8, assembly. After I had glued up the lid, I cut the ends of so they were level with the sides. Then I started rounding over the outside of the lid using a plane. I took a break from the free hand planing, and decided to glue up the lower part of the chest. This went conspicuously smooth. Even the diagonal measurements were spot on. Next task was to fit a striking plate in the lid. I marked out the position ...
Mulesaw: December 2014

Being old fashioned, the cool way. Tuesday, December 9, 2014. The title may be a bit misleading, because it is not about tools used to build maritime stuff, rather than tools I have used the past year for hobby woodworking on a ship. As some of you may remember, I made a tool chest for the sea last year. During the last year I have built a couple of projects using the tool kit, so I feel that I can give an honest review of it. Cabinet with many drawers. A carved name sign. Fairy tale princess bed. The to...
Mulesaw: Treasure chest with curved lid part 3 dovetails and glueing up the bottom.
http://mulesaw.blogspot.com/2015/07/treasure-chest-with-curved-lid-part-3.html
Being old fashioned, the cool way. Sunday, July 5, 2015. Treasure chest with curved lid part 3 dovetails and glueing up the bottom. Today I chopped the dovetails of the four corners of the chest. A benefit of using spruce is that you can make the dovetails really tight since the wood compresses very well. This time I made the tails first like at home, and I do find that I am able to make nicer dovetails that way compared to when I make them pins first. I found some more spruce that could be glued up to f...

Being old fashioned, the cool way. Saturday, May 30, 2015. Canvas tool roll for regular chisels 2. After sewing on the two major parts that will form the base for the individual pockets, I laid out the sizes of each individual pocket. I graduated the pockets in size, so the narrowest one is approximately 3/8" wide and the widest one is a full 2". Off course it is possible to put a narrow chisel in a wide pocket, but if the size fits - the chisel won't shift around, and it looks better in my opinion.
Mulesaw: Treasure chest with curved lid part 7, the lid
http://mulesaw.blogspot.com/2015/07/treasure-chest-with-curved-lid-part-7.html
Being old fashioned, the cool way. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Treasure chest with curved lid part 7, the lid. After the glue had dried I decided that it didn't look right if I'd led the inside stay as it was with flat boards forming the surface. I adjusted the scrub iron in the plane, so it was able to take a bit of a cut even when only the sides of the plane were riding on high spots. It was far from ideal, but I managed to get the inside to form some sort of a curve instead. I am getting used to making an...
Mulesaw: Treasure chest with curved lid part 6, the lid
http://mulesaw.blogspot.com/2015/07/treasure-chest-with-curved-lid-part-6.html
Being old fashioned, the cool way. Thursday, July 9, 2015. Treasure chest with curved lid part 6, the lid. The lid is going to be almost semicircular from the front going to the back. Length wise it will be straight. I started by drawing an arc that would correspond to my plans for the lid. Then I scribed the piece of a circle using that setting. I measured the curved distance ( I know you can calculate it as well, but I don't remember how to since it is only a fraction of a circle). Each pair of bevelle...

Being old fashioned, the cool way. Sunday, February 22, 2015. Portable wooden tack box. Before leaving for the sea last time, Gustav started making a tack box for his grooming supplies for the horse. He wanted to try his hands out on dovetailing, so the design is like a small dovetailed chest with a skirt and there will be a hinged lid. I showed Gustav how to make the dovetails, and the sides were made with tails first, and a small rabbet on the inside. Boards for the sides and ends. The interior of the ...

Being old fashioned, the cool way. Sunday, September 28, 2014. Stanley Bedrock 604, part 2. The majority of people who commented on my choice of wood for the patch cast their vote in favour of oak. As some of you might remember from my "Seaborne chest build". I cave in pretty easy when it comes to peer pressure (as long as it is sensible of course). So I am doing the same thing here and going the oak way. Glue was added to both parts and the clamp was attached. The filed away area. Ready for applying glue.

Being old fashioned, the cool way. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. The painted door in the stable. Today it wasn't raining, so I decided to move swiftly and paint the door. I normally like to use oil base paint, since I haven't got much faith in latex /acrylic paints. The colour is called Swedish red. It is a Danish produced paint from Esbjerg Paints. The label of this paint is called Arsinol, it is intended for outdoor use. Tuesday, October 28, 2014. A door for the stable. The door leads from the stable to...
