Adventures of Dr. Stobasaurus. Here we go. Emergency Medicine Residency! Thursday, July 28, 2011. Wow Just wow. So today was my 3rd day of NICU. Woo, premature babies who are tiny, sick, and need central lines placed through their umbilical cords. Right. So having to "write notes" and be told what to do by my "senior - a peds pgy2" is pretty frustrating but luckily I like my "senior" so I am being a team player. However, when a nurse says to me "aren't you the er resident? No, no they aren't. i know ...

My sister always does these "wordless" posts and I don't know enough about blogger culture to know if it's for specific blogs or whatever. soo, since I am never without words I'll do my best to just post a picture. As I continue to ramble on in my head. This is going to be impossible! Thursday, May 19, 2011. I have quite a few people ...

Adventures of Dr. Stobasaurus: February 2011
http://drstobasaurus.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Adventures of Dr. Stobasaurus. Here we go. Emergency Medicine Residency! Tuesday, February 22, 2011. So hey, I'm a real doctor. Real as in, officially. they page me to DO things and make DECISIONS about other people's lives, care, and comfort. It's insane. but somehow, it's slowly becoming not that big a deal. Oh you need a refill on your propanalol? Oh, you want to change the IVF to normal saline instead of D5W. When did this happen? All for the sake of a breathing tube? Thank you for changing my life.

Just when you thought you were hardened to all things medicine. a 27 week neonate codes in front of you with pulmonary hemorrhage. That you can handle, until the mom and dad walk in and the dad asks if he can touch the baby. As he strokes the peanut's foot, he says "c'mon baby girl, don't give up.". And cue me choking back tears. C'mon baby girl, don't give up! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Running my first and probably only 1/2 marathon tomorrow. 1 For my husband, who keeps me sane - forced me to train when I didn't want to and has taught me the art of placing my butt on the couch. 2 For my mom - who made me who I am today! And my dad, who I miss every day! 3 For my sis and bro - they are the best siblings a girl could EVER, EVER hope for. Jenni, Marilyn, and Suz.

Straightforward penile discharge case - see the patient with the intern, check some urine, and ask the male intern to do a swab for g/c. He says ok. Within 10 minutes, the nurse Flobes walks out of the room with a MRSA swab (very large q-tip) and says um, I don't think this is the correct swab to send. Yes, yes you did.

Adventures of Dr. Stobasaurus: April 2011
http://drstobasaurus.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Adventures of Dr. Stobasaurus. Here we go. Emergency Medicine Residency! Thursday, April 28, 2011. Whatever happened to the concept of treating the whole patient? When did medicine get so specialized that you can only examine/worry about/treat one organ system? I understand being so specialized in a field that you are an expert but didn't we all go to medical school? Don't we all have to learn about the anatomy/physiology/pathology/pharmacology as it relates to ALL organ systems? The limitations or acting.
