Mostly about boating on NB Jubilee. Saturday, 8 August 2015. The Burnley Embankment is one of the so-called seven wonders of the waterways. My photo doesn't do it justice; the one I took from below doesn't really show the scale of the thing either. As we entered Burnley we saw plenty of old mills, far more than in Blackburn. We stopped at the canalside museum in the Weavers' Triangle, which was open and very good. I don't remember having seen a bale of cotton before. Labels: Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

CRT have today put rubber mats down on sections of the towpath in the vicinity of the Crick Boat Show. They are laid on top of finely crushed hardcore where exposed tree roots could have presented a trip hazard. Construction soaring over the canal and must be costing thousands. Mostly about boating on NB Jubilee. Sunday, 17 May 2015. Walking along the towpath from Wood End Lock to Fradley Junction recently I came across this. At the end of a short brick tunnel under the towpath is a paddle, connected to which is a rod extending above the ground. Raising this would empty a section of canal. I wonder how often it's used. All good things come to an end and so we had a farewell lunch on Rhapsody last Tuesday and then enjoyed two days at Upper Dentford and Hungerford near Newbury before flying out from Heathrow on thur night. Due to the time zones we arrived in Sydney on sat morning. Since then our sleep patterns have been erratic as we try to resync to Australian time.

The dongle has been letting us down the past few days with a very dodgy signal. We walked into Stourbridge, about 2 miles, to have an afternoon out. Our big treat might be ice cream cones from Waitrose (the posh grocery store)! It's sunny and about 20C here today. Yesterday it was chilly enough to have a coal fire. Go figure. Links to this post. On Friday I disconnected the outlet hose from the bilge pump and lifted it out of position so I could get at the impeller. It seemed free enough but still only managed a pathetically slow speed when operated. Hmm. Broken, I thought.
