Jill VanAntwerp's Education Blog. November 16, 2009 — Jill VanAntwerp. Much has changed since 1994. Some districts have lost pupils to new programs like Charter Schools or Schools of Choice. The state has lost citizens due to the poor economy and job losses. Districts and the state have lost money as homes are foreclosed or lose value, and as people quit spending as incomes are lost or go down. Less spending means less sales tax. Should they lay off teachers and other workers at the change of semesters?

Jill VanAntwerp's Education Blog. September 28, 2009 — Jill VanAntwerp. When the Michigan group I was part of reviewed these standards, we felt they were very minimal. Our thought was that Michigan has already gone far beyond these standards in the current state ELA standards 6 through 12. If the idea is that these will be the required baseline, then Michigan is OK and would not have to add to what it currently requires. September 20, 2009 — Jill VanAntwerp. Sue Grasman's Blog. Just another WordPress.com site. Teaching Skills In The Context of Writing →. October 12, 2010. In Chapter 6 of her book,. Regie Routman makes the powerful statement that although in many schools reading and writing are completely separate subjects, they should not be. She follows up this statement by saying that “growth in reading positively impacts writing, and growth in writing positively impacts reading.” I love this idea! Mission to Missoula

Ramblings on a complicated life. Tuesday, September 27, 2011. I’m on a quest to find a good non-alcoholic wine, emphasis on the “good”. I know, why bother, right? In fact, while researching the topic, I went to the wine lover’s page (wineloverspage.com) where I was told the search for an authentic, non-alcoholic wine was probably futile. Forget about it and look for “Quality fruit juices, sparkling water, good coffee or tea.”. Seems like a good argument for at least trying. 8220;Some of ARIEL’s var...
