A glimpse into the life of rural Ethiopia. Images from around Sasiga. Register for updates to this blog. What is this journey about? August 28, 2008. News – Update to the Conflict in the West. This blog is called a journey for good reason. It is hard to believe what we will find. So foreign. Insecure. But always remember, no matter how foreign it may seem to us this is no journey for those that make their home there. This is their rugged reality. There were emergency funds raised from within FH-Internati...

Back to the Cradle: April 2008
http://passthekimchi.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Back to the Cradle. Hey there Blogger world, we're finally here for a much needed update. Due to a tropical virus our computer was down for some time and we were unable to post. But now it's all good. So I thought I would share some pictures of my school and my kids. Enjoy! My Grade 4 class which is my absolute favorite. 24 kids who for the most part love to engage and think the world of me. We have a lot of fun. I see them about 7 periods a week. Or "Is it ok for a Muslim to marry a Christian? This is H...
Back to the Cradle: Africa Reads
http://passthekimchi.blogspot.com/2008/06/africa-reads.html
Back to the Cradle. I've been reading alot of books about Africa lately, I think on last count about 12 in the past 3 months or so. I know not everyone has my great fascination with the Dark Continent but here are a few reads I highly reccomend for those with an interest in Africa or in a good read. Ok, so the 750 pages might seem a little intimidating at first but they fly by. "The Fate of Africa". Stephanie Nolen's "28: Stories of AIDS in Africa". A Canadian journalist gives stories and faces to th...

Back to the Cradle. I know you all love to see pictures so here are a few of some Ethiopian sights. These are some pictures of the crazy traffic that sometimes develops here. The blue and whites are what Nolana and I use to get around. Maybe 12 cents for a ride. Here are some of the Orthodox worshippers. Some of the churches are beautiful and ornate and some mere walls. At least 50% of people here are orthodox. From the overpass. You can see the fruit stall as well as the coal seller. I am a happily marr...
Back to the Cradle: Moved!
http://passthekimchi.blogspot.com/2008/07/moved.html
Back to the Cradle. No we're not all moved into our new digs yet but, I am moving my blog away from passthekimchi.blogspot.com. This one was built for our travels and, as the address suggests, was a little too place specific. For Ethiopia I kept the URL but changed the name. Now it's time to simply move and start over, something a little more inclusive of all the pots my fingers are in. So come see the new blog at http:/ ericswanderings.blogspot.com/. My e-mail address is smpkmj69@naver.com. I am a happi...
Wanderings: Toronto Island
http://ericswanderings.blogspot.com/2010/06/toronto-island.html
Not everyone who wanders is lost. -J.R.R. Tolkien. Sunday, June 20, 2010. I'm a little behind on posting this but about a month ago we headed over to Toronto Island for the day with some friends of ours, taking advantage of some smoking warm weather. A short ferry ride later we were picnicking like we were at some secluded park instead of in the city. It's a beautiful spot with a great vantage of the city, a quick reprieve from big city life. It was a nice day full of friends. June 21, 2010 at 1:25 AM.
Wanderings: "Can Daija come out and play?"
http://ericswanderings.blogspot.com/2010/06/can-daija-come-out-and-play.html
Not everyone who wanders is lost. -J.R.R. Tolkien. Sunday, June 6, 2010. Can Daija come out and play? This weekend I was home alone with Daija as Nolana was away for the weekend at a ladies retreat. Saturday evening as I was preparing dinner, I heard the doorbell ring. Daija freaked out (she has a thing for doorbells.) and I wondered who in the world it could be; I wasn't expecting anyone. Must be a salesman or someone looking for donations I thought. June 6, 2010 at 4:12 PM. June 7, 2010 at 2:15 PM.
Wanderings: June 2009

Not everyone who wanders is lost. -J.R.R. Tolkien. Saturday, June 27, 2009. Moving is Never Boring. We've survived the heat. Didn't think we were going to when we woke up the next morning and at 9:00 am the Humidex was reading 38 degrees already! But that afternoon all the humidity brought a thunder/rain storm that cleared the air and has brought temps back to a reasonable 25-30ish. Feels great. She also has started moving like crazy even in her sleep, resulting in some odd contortions. Lastly, and perha...

Not everyone who wanders is lost. -J.R.R. Tolkien. Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Next weekend Toronto descends into controlled chaos as the G20 world leaders arrive to . well, we're not sure what they're going to do but it will likely involve a lot of talking. something I'm sure they had to do in person. in downtown Toronto. I'm pretty sure it was the most logical place to meet. Around downtown Toronto is up. Cell phones are ready to be jammed. Are shutting down. UofT. Except, it doesn't. And all at the ...
Wanderings: May 2010
http://ericswanderings.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Not everyone who wanders is lost. -J.R.R. Tolkien. Monday, May 31, 2010. For completing my coursework for the summer! Just one more paper to write and then some work on my thesis and writing/editing. Perhaps more time for blogging? To the hope that no classwork actually means free time and the chance to catch up on some personal reading. To the morning cool of a summer day. Especially when it's spent quietly with a cup of coffee. Except there's not much quiet in my house anymore. And to those who respond...

Ria, Bas and Francoise. Journey to Sanct...
My Journey to Sanity
My Journey to Sanity. February 15, 2009 by San. Breathes* It is Sunday evening and I am exhausted though it is semi saner in the house for me. The kids are taking it hard, acting out, screaming and shouting at her, refusing to eat, acting out with each other its breaking my heart. I swear it feels like déjà vu and it hurts me so very deeply seeing it within him. . There are no rules in situations like these, who’s responsibility is it to tell the child not to talk to their mother like that? These bounda...
