Judy's Journal

Collected together, reflected upon, the best of judy's journal. Tuesday, March 27, 2018. I Begin With Silence. When I first started to make quilts, all my efforts were accompanied by questions: to speak or not to spaek? To be silent or to talk back? To explain or let it pass? To interrupt or let it be? In earlier times, in Bulgaria, women kept a little stone inside their mouths to keep them from talking back or screaming. It was a woman's Stone of Wisdom. Judy's Journal: I saw a butterfly, there can be more to life

http://judys-journal.blogspot.com/2015/07/i-saw-butterfly-there-can-be-more-to.html

Friday, July 24, 2015. I saw a butterfly, there can be more to life. I made this quilt in 1988. (when she was three). Grace took it to university with her in 2003. (when she was 18). I'm glad to see that she really used it. I had discovered painting on fabric around that time. I remember painting and then appliqueing these fantastical butterflies onto the scrap quilt base. The title is from a book I was reading at the time about caterpillars. A small thing I can do for her in the big picture of her life.

Judy's Journal: The Jack Pine

http://judys-journal.blogspot.com/2008/01/blog-post.html

Wednesday, January 30, 2008. My grandmother was an oil painter. Her favourite subject was trees. The beloved Canadian painter Tom Thomson painted The Jack Pine in 1916. When, in 1918, the National Gallery purchased it, 'The Jack Pine' became quite famous within Canada. Reproductions hung in Canadian schools. I wonder if my grandmother was influenced by Tom Thomson's painting when she began this painting? When was it painted, I wonder? It is signed E J in the lower right. (for Ethel Jane). Japanese Textil...

Enjoy, this looks amazing! Priorities . check. The middle picture is a perfect mother and child portrait. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Judy's Journal: the light the hope

http://judys-journal.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-light-hope.html

Sunday, May 17, 2015. The light the hope. Lake - indigo dyed and hand stitched quilt on left. The Light of the Moon - acrylic, thread, paper and cotton wall piece on right. Before I delivered my work to Shannon at the Perivale Gallery. Earlier this month, I re-read the journal text in the stitched paper collage. The darkness will always be there but you can see the light of the moon as hope. I am showing three pieces at the Perivale Gallery this year. Left to right: Duet. And Light of the Moon. Beautiful...

October 31, 2016. It sounds so much better to call it an adventure, instead of a bloody nightmare, doesn’t it? A whole week ago, the dealership knew exactly who to talk to about this problem, but they just kept doing nothing. October 17, 2016. Most often, I am inspired by other textile artists. And often, their work is a springboard for something I want to try in quilting. If you think that’s wrong, here is a quote I keep in my studio:. If I wanted to make perfect objects, I wouldn’t use fabric. And just...

Ein Teil von mir . Mittwoch, 12. August 2015. Und welche Überraschungen der Sommer noch bereit hält. Die mit Wolle und Pflanzen gefüllten Gläser. chrissythreads: April 2014

http://chrissythreads.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Friday, 11 April 2014. It always seems rather a dichotomy that when you have lots of things going on that would be of interest to a blog reader that you never have time to actually blog about it- Such is my life at the moment , with about 4 different textile directions tearing at me. I am currently researching 18th century embroidery techniques and costume in connection with all this and when I have a sample to tease you with I will. At the moment its all note taking, drawing and photographing. The Craft...

Sunday, 24 August 2014. This is just a quick post to say that I haven't abandoned the blogworld. Judy's Journeys

Sunday, May 6, 2007. My initial thoughts about this course? The video reinforced my thinking in the following areas:. YES It is never too late to learn - even for me. I enjoy the learning, it is the challenge of getting the technology to work when I need it - and when there are 30 or so kids waiting for it to go. But things WILL get better. There are challenges not problems. MAKE time to play - to explore and discover. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
