It is something — it can be everything — to have found a fellow bird with whom you can sit among the rafters while the drinking and boasting and reciting and fighting go on below. 8211; Wallace Stegner. Musings tossed into the void . . . Friday, November 02, 2012. A former journalist takes those colleagues to task for failing to cover climate change as the crisis it is. In the face of this situation — as much as it pains me to say this — you are failing. Your so-called "objectivity," your bloodless impartiality, are nothing but a convenient excuse for what amounts to an inexcusable failure to tell the most urgent truth we've ever faced. Musings tossed into the void . . . Friday, April 12, 2013. Just happened to catch this story. Which was part of this morning's Morning Edition - perhaps the recent phenomenon of NYTimes "haiku" spurred it, or maybe just the annual ritual of appreciating the cherry blossoms in DC. Still, they actually involved members of the Haiku Society of America, so there was more substance than mere syllable-counting to the final selection - progress! Sound of a love song passes. 8212; Dawn Apanius. What time is it?

Musings tossed into the void . . . Thursday, February 28, 2013. Great post by Jezebel. On the Acadamy Awards, the frustration with people who can't learn, and the insistence of every schmuck that feminists should spend all their time holding his precious little hand until he understands THE WAY THINGS ARE in even remedial terms. Sometimes it feels like that. Often. I admire her unwillingness to throw up her hands. Via a re-tweet by Medley). Thursday, February 14, 2013. A milestone in feminism. Support vi...

Musings tossed into the void . . . Thursday, March 13, 2014. Quote of the era. Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.". 8213; Isaac Asimov. A visitor can buy a book at one temple and then have it filled with inscriptions from each temple he visits. Insensitive tourist tries to pick up local girls. Of, the strangenesses?

Fortuitous Travel: Yes, Virginia, there is a mayor.
http://fortuitoustravel.blogspot.com/2007/01/yes-virginia-there-is-mayor.html
Where I've been. What it looked like. Occasional thoughts. Monday, January 08, 2007. Yes, Virginia, there is a mayor. Virginia Berkman, 82, is Chris' mother and my new housemate. She's great. Anytime the conversation lulls, just ask her about The Depression and settle in for some stories. On January 8th, Ron Dellums was to be inaugurated as the new Mayor of Oakland. Virginia decided to make an appearance and I volunteered to escort her. There was some interest on the part of the media.

As we drove up in our lumbering camper van, passing and being passed by much bigger tour vans, I kept thinking about horror movies where the old house is haunted. In this beautiful city?

Just Me.
Following the recent murder case of a Chinese student in Montreal, fear struck. The victim was murdered, chopped into pieces and died in a gruesome way - without any dignity preserved. The piece of news disturbed me in many ways. But mostly was due to the fact that humanity has degraded into such extent where killing could be done mercilessly. I can't help to question, how could he had done that. What do you think? What do you think? What do you think? What do you think? What do you think?

Musings tossed into the void . . . Thursday, January 19, 2017. It all goes to hell starting tomorrow. Ok, two months without a post, but barely a day without a freak-out. This heap of appointments just keeps getting worse - who thought that even an Education Secretary could feel like a threat to the future of the nation? I can hardly write about it, but I thought maybe I'd feel better if I did a blog dump of everything that's been wiring me up, so here it is. Bad news about the Trump era:. McConnell Not ...
