Just In Laos: Season of changes

http://justinlaos.blogspot.com/2010/05/season-of-changes.html

Monday, May 17, 2010. It seems like there's a lot going on these days. Fortunately, I took some pictures to help me explain:. My host family had a nice party for me on the evening of my birthday. It was kind of fun, but busy, playing the role of a Lao host- making sure drinks are filled and food is eaten. With the women of the neighborhood. The men. My host dad's on the far left. I haven't figured out the name of this tree in English, but its bright red flowers really stand out against Laos' greenery.

Joe and Jen's Cooking Extravaganza! Friday night Joe and I were bored and looking for something to do. We brainstormed and decided to make food! It began with chopping onions, celery, and potatoes. If you haven't heard yet, Joe and I are going to be spending at least 12 months in Bulgaria! We anticipate leaving in July. more details to come later! The last few months have been a whirlwind! I've heard people say time goes faster and faster as you get older, but I've never really believed it until now! Every month it gets to be the 30th or 31st, and I wonder where the month went! Diesal has improved tremendously since the start of 2010! He's learning "place," "come," "down," and not to cross a rope!

Life as a Horst: August 2009

http://thehorsts.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

On April 30, 2009, we went to the Wayne County Humane Society. And picked up Diesal, a dog that had been picked up by the animal cruelty officer from somewhere in the county. He had been found tied tightly to a post or tree of some sort with no food or water. At 58lbs, all that was left of him was skin and bones. Apparently when they found him, he had multiple leather collars tightly fastened around his neck. As you can see in this photo, they had rubbed his fur down to his skin. Traveling with land skii...
