Thursday, December 8, 2011. Hondsbossche Zeewering: View from atop the dyke. This must be one of the most amazing and (literally) hair-raising experiences I have had in the Netherlands. We parked in the shadow of this huge dyke and I wasn't planning to venture up or across. But my brother-in-law insisted and urged me and accompanied me. and it was unforgettable! I have once before been so swept off my feet by wind and water. That was at Cabo de Roca in Portugal. The view of the North Sea from the top.

Sunday, September 16, 2012. Sounds like an Audrey Hepburn movie. The idea of stopping for tea in Luxembourg had no particular rationale. It just seemed like a nice thing to say to those imaginary people who would ask about our trip: Oh, we stopped in Luxembourg for tea. Well, it was dinnertime when we reached Luxembourg, and so here are some photos of this very beautiful city just before sunset. Wherever you go, there I am. From the Strasbourg Modern Art Museum. Tram tour around town. When you turn the c...

Sunday, May 20, 2007. One last walk around Leiden and a little shopping on Saturday which is one of the two market days in Leiden (Wednesday is the other). I have a photograph taken from this bridge posted elsewhere. Which is also a Windmill Museum. Leiden's main square, where the bookseller had set up shop. As you walk down this avenue, the Hooglandschekerk (or the Church of St. Pancras) looms up suddenly. One is not, or I was not, prepared for the scale of this edifice. On the day we visited, the weath...

Friday, July 3, 2015. A beautiful day in Breda. I love days without an agenda. Have I written this before? Breda has a cathedral and a famous design museum and special architecture, but the cathedral was closed and I chose not to go to the museum and so all we did was to wander the streets. I got shown all the special Breda-style roofs and windows of the houses, and we walked in and out of the usual stores, but I really loved the day! Take a look at Breda! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Sunday, June 21, 2015. Robeco Summer Nights concert at the Concertgebouw. I've been very lucky that over the years, I have got to see and do things in the Netherlands that locals alone know about. For instance, the Robeco Summer concerts at Concertgebouw. In Amsterdam. I'd been hearing about them for ages, and finally got to go. Anyway, here are a few photos that do the day no justice. Just outside the Concertgebouw. Nighttime lighting outside the Concertgebouw. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Weekend in Bonn: The Dom. I went to Bonn to visit my cousin. Nothing prepared me for the vision right outside Cologne station: Cologne's absolutely awe-inspiring cathedral. Coming within a day of my last rapturous visit to the Strasbourg Cathedral, it still managed to be impressively magnificent. Check out the Cathedral's own website. For the photos I did not take. And look at the beautiful sky! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Weekend in Bonn: The Dom. Wherever I lay my hat.
