Thursday, July 24, 2008. Home in just under 6 days. Looking forward to it. I´ll be leaving Moyobamba Saturday afternoon, then traveling to Tarapoto. I´ll stay in Tarapoto for a day or so, and catch my flight from the airport in Tarapoto Monday Af. Ternoon. It´s then a night full of flying for me, as I head first to Lima, then pass through customs and immigration in Atlanta. I´ll have just enough time (hopefully) to pass through and catch my flight to Charlotte. Of my first set of pictures. Anyways, tomor...

The clinic then reopens at 3 and then closes for the day at 6. but it´s getting close to 1, which means it´s lunch time. Links to this post. Saturday, May 17, 2008. Just around the corner. Tales of a Virginia Yankee in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. July 2, 2009. I have begun writing about education in South Africa ( here. It is a system caught between two worlds, as is much of the rest of South Africa. From South Africa’s National Research Foundation (NRF). It neatly summarizes the charge to the faculty: to be the premier university of African scholarship . Did I mention that an undergraduate degree in South Africa is three years? Basically, university professors are supposed to write resea...

Tales of a Virginia Yankee in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Ultra Marathon, Anyone? June 5, 2009. Some places in this world are famous for many things and other places for just a few, or perhaps only one, but every place is famous for. One of the somethings that Pietermartizburg is famous for is the Comrades Marathon. What some call “The Worlds Greatest Race”. What is an ultramarathon? You might ask, who would sign up to run in a 55 mile race on extremely hilly terrain in Africa? There was at least one th...
