Where you go, I'll go: March 2007
http://myuganda.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 29. Only 24 more days on campus and then we’re off to Rwanda. Crazy! Hakuna Matata. And well, I am in Africa…. By the way, for any of you who have gone on the safari ride at Animal Kingdom they do a pretty darn good job. I went on a safari this past weekend that was spectacular. Our safari started at 6am which meant we got to watch the beautiful sunrise. That alone was worth it! Random fact: did you know that hippos use their tails as toilet paper? The other highlight of the week was lead...

Where you go, I'll go: Day 4: Tuesday, March 6, more excerpts from my journal
http://myuganda.blogspot.com/2007/03/day-4-tuesday-march-6-more-excerpts.html
Wednesday, March 14. Day 4: Tuesday, March 6, more excerpts from my journal. My fingers are torn apart and bleeding from shelling g-nuts. We are shelling a ton to give to Margaret and to take with us. Thank God it is break time though-time for a nap. So far away, so heavy, and such a long line! After water we prepared chapatti and millet porridge. Not a big fan of millet porridge. Jessica Elese Porter. You are amazing. You cut the head off of a chicken! You shelled peanuts until your fingers bled! This w...

Where you go, I'll go: Rural Homestay Day 2
http://myuganda.blogspot.com/2007/03/rural-homestay-day-2.html
Wednesday, March 14. Rural Homestay Day 2. I also got to milk a cow which was interesting. It’s not like this is a completely foreign concept in America, but I’d never done it before! First you have to tie up the cow and her calf. You let the calf suckle first so that it softens up the cows udders so you can milk her. After a while you tie the calf back up and then you can milk! That’s about as direct from the source as you can get. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Where you go, I'll go.

Where you go, I'll go: Rural Homestay Day 1
http://myuganda.blogspot.com/2007/03/rural-homestay-day-1.html
Wednesday, March 14. Rural Homestay Day 1. Would I sleep on the ground where rats could crawl all over me? Would I just sit all day and feel awkward or would I work hard all day? These are some of the questions that were floating around in my mind. Finally it was my turn, to be honest the anticipation felt like I was on death row…except I was surprisingly excited. Sometimes I can be an all or nothing girl and since this felt like an "all" I was kinda excited! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Where you...

Where you go, I'll go: Chills the Cockroach, Hailstorms, and 10 more days...
http://myuganda.blogspot.com/2007/04/chills-cockroach-hailstorms-and-10-more.html
Wednesday, April 11. Chills the Cockroach, Hailstorms, and 10 more days. I have named him Chills because every time I think about him chills run down my spine. You would think that after being in Uganda for almost 4 months I would be over bugs. Even cockroaches. They do come visit our room every now and then. But this cockroach was the size of my fist! April 9 I was sitting in my room, just back from Mukono, anticipating the rain. I love it when it rains. Instead of rain, however, it hailed! This was a j...
