Starfish Studio: September 2012
http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 19 September 2012. A little ring of metal. This little metal ring has made me exceedingly happy today! It's a free machine embroidery foot which arrived in the post yesterday. When I first bought such a foot for my machine, the only one I could find to fit a Singer was this one. It's really hard to see what you're doing and I've never liked it very much. Disaster struck last week when the machine made a horrible sound and ground to a halt. I couldn't have done that with the old foot! It combin...

Living and working by the sea in beautiful, rural Aberdeenshire. September 16, 2010 in Uncategorized. We’ve had a steady stream of visitors to the village this week. They are all walking around clutching their NEOS catalogues and our extra special Johnshaven NEOS maps. These are available to pick up from any venue in the village or can be downloaded from http:/ starfishstudio.orson2.com/pages/NEOS. Have a peek at two more studios –. Kelly Sim makes these amazing creations from books. You are commenting u...
Starfish Studio: June 2012
http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, 30 June 2012. If you follow Starfish Studio on Facebook you may have seen a photo of some felt leaves that I've been working on. I stitched onto them using metallic threads and added beads and stars, making each one different. They were then stitched onto this tree. The background is lightly quilted in an assortment of yellows and oranges and the tree was cut from a single piece of felt. It's finished off with red bias binding. Links to this post. Starfish Studio: West Highland Way
http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2014/05/west-highland-way.html
Thursday, 29 May 2014. What an amazing, exhilarating experience this was - 96 miles from Milngavie (near Glasgow) to Fort William, through some of the most stunning scenery Scotland has to offer. I did the walk with my dad to raise funds for the PSP Association. Neither of us are exactly super-fit, muscle toned athletes, so it was always going to be a challenge! Dad is 72 and has a heart condition, so we just had to take it at a steady pace, plodding on whilst the younger, fitter walkers zoomed past!

Living and working by the sea in beautiful, rural Aberdeenshire. Flowers, veg and stormy weather. September 9, 2010 in Uncategorized. We had the most enjoyable day out on Sunday at the Dundee Flower and Food Festival. Having killed every house plant I’ve ever owned, and not done much better with the pots outside my front door (which contain more weeds than flowers), I do appreciate the skills of gardeners. Loving the woodlands section. Making candles in the bee tent. September 3, 2010 in Uncategorized.
Starfish Studio: May 2013
http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 14 May 2013. If you've ever heard the Radio Scotland travel reports during the winter months, you'll be familiar with the phrase, "The B974 Banchory to Fettercairn road is closed due to snow"! Yesterday, however, the sun was shining when I drove over this stunning route. Locally, this old military road is better known as the Cairn o'Mount. I've driven past this ruin many times, but this time I stopped to take a few photos of the building and the burn that runs close by. Links to this post. Starf...

Living and working by the sea in beautiful, rural Aberdeenshire. September 21, 2010 in Uncategorized. There was no time to pause for breath after NEOS ended. I was also exhibiting with South Aberdeenshire Abstracts during the week, and we had a lovely end of NEOS get together on Sunday evening. Then yesterday morning I took the train to Glasgow to visit Scotland’s Trade Fair at the SECC. The Armadillo at the SECC. Great Scottish-made stuff on the left, good quality imported stuff on the right. I took my ...
Starfish Studio: January 2012
http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 31 January 2012. This was only a small fire but the disruption has been enormous. We still have to have the kitchen pulled apart to install new worktops, sink and a cupboard. Never mind, we're getting there slowly. Here's a piece I finished before Christmas but never quite got around to posting on here. This fishy part was done using dissolvable plastic laid over the fibres before stitching them into place. Dunking the fabric into warm water and watching the plastic melt away is fab! Please, ple...
Starfish Studio: March 2014
http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Friday, 14 March 2014. Do you know what I love most about working with textiles? It's the simplicity of it all - with just a piece of fabric, some thread, a needle and your imagination, you can create something beautiful, practical or fun (or all three)! The fabric in this case is a particularly boring, large expanse of grey felt. My older daughter, Eilidh, is appearing as one of two mice. She won't actually be seen on stage (which suits her fine! But she'll be operating a mouse puppet and singing. I was...
Starfish Studio: February 2012
http://starfishstudio.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, 9 February 2012. Lollipop trees or flowers or? I was inspired to use zigzag stitches in free machine embroidery having read an article about this in a magazine. I made these flower heads by zigzagging around the edge of a piece of fabric with a felt backing. I then zigzagged a circle in the middle and added beads and a bit of hand stitching. Each flower head was given a stem, (or maybe each tree top was given a trunk? Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Starfish Studio is a small cr...
