We usually ride out towards the North Downs on the Surrey Lanes at a average pace of about 16-18 mph for 3-4 hours and we do our best not to leave anyone behind. The Alz Bike Challenge. Tuesday, 12 July 2011. The Etape Act 1 - Modane to Alpe d'Huez. 11 July 2011 -. Kit laid out ready to go. The day started with a 3.30am alarm, breakfast and a 40 minute coach trip to the start village in Modane. The bike in Modane ready for the off. The rider cheery and as ready as I was going to be. Note the arm warmers, it was a bit chilly at 6.30 but the weather was looking promising. Finally things got moving and I rolled over the start line at 8.08 am. Alas my enthusiasm got ...
The Alz Bike Challenge.: December 2010
http://alzbikechallenge.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
The Alz Bike Challenge. Saturday, 11 December 2010. Not quite to plan. Alas this December's training is not going as I had hoped. The sole reason being my elf, (christmas joke, boom boom). My first club run of the month was not unexpectedly cold but the cold air had me completely out of puff and struggling to keep the pedals turning let alone keep up with the group, let alone stay in my usual position just off the back of the group. My heart rate isn't as high as it was on high rate work outs. Monday, 6 ...

The Alz Bike Challenge. Sunday, 15 May 2011. 8 weeks to go! My challenge feels only around the corner. Over the past months I have noticed real improvement in my fitness and training. Today I rode the same again with the variation to include the 17km 'warm up' that will be from Modane to the foot of the Telegraphe. I also paid particular attention to my timings and pace notes (http:/ alzbikechallenge.blogspot.com/2011/04/more-detailed-etape-info-received.html). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Brains ...
Andrew Bye: June 2008
http://andrewbye.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 25 June 2008. Me not looking too comfortable! Another weekend racing, this time in Aberveganny for the GP of Wales. Not sure my first experience in a travelodge will tempt me back. at least it wasn't too expensive at 50 quid. The Fonz (Russell Downing) again seems head and shoulders above the rest winning again for the umpteenth time this season. Very Impressive! At least he looks like he's trying this time :). Saturday, 21 June 2008. First race in a little while. A good workout, although did ...
Andrew Bye: August 2008
http://andrewbye.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Monday, 4 August 2008. Well Sunday didn't really go to plan for me as a rear wheel puncture only 30 minutes into the race scuppered my hopes of a good ride. A combination of the course and the racing made it too hard to recover any good feeling in my legs and so after 60 miles, knowing that two team mates up the road in breaks (Rob and Matt) and me being unable to do much more than cling to the last wheel in the main group I sat up and let the wheel go in order to end the suffering. Friday, 1 August 2008.
Andrew Bye: April 2008
http://andrewbye.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 29 April 2008. Been a little quiet recently. Another pretty frustrating weekends racing not only for me but for the rest of my sigma team mates I imagine as well. Just about everyone else in the Sigma team had their chances scuppered by untimely punctures, this wasn't helped much with the team car being drawn last in the convoy. Pretty pissed off as fitness had actually felt pretty good going into it. Sunday, 13 April 2008. Good weekend for Sigma. Antelope RT 3 up TTT. Today at the Thames Velo r...

The Alz Bike Challenge. Monday, 20 June 2011. 3 Weeks to Go! Scary, stuff now with only 3 weeks to go until the Etape and I turn the pedals ‘in anger’! In pursuit of the first aim, I have created a short list of my essentials for the ride/trip to France. Nutrigrain bars (open before the start). Contact lenses (essential to see where I’m going). Diaper cream (allows for a smooth ride, say no more! Bike (essential in my opinion). Leg warmers (could be a bit nippy at 2,500m ish). Arm warmers (see above).
