Cashmere Dreams: July 2009

http://kitchencotton.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

On a Kitchen Cotton Budget. Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Maplewing is finally and officially a finished object! There were a few modifications to the pattern: the yarn used has a finer gauge that what was recommended, so I used US 2.5s instead of US 5s. Since I had a shorter row gauge, but still had quite a bit of width, there is an additional repeat of chart B, and I used a double-stranded German twisted cast-on. Pattern: Maplewing Shawl by Anne Hanson (Knitspot.com). Needle size: 2.5 US. Links to this post.

Cashmere Dreams: Navajo Ply, certainly not on the Fly.

http://kitchencotton.blogspot.com/2009/06/navajo-ply-certainly-not-on-fly.html

On a Kitchen Cotton Budget. Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Navajo Ply, certainly not on the Fly. After watching Cathy navajo ply on her spindle, I was tempted to try the "non fly" method on my spinning wheel. ( Navajo plying. A yarn allows you to turn a single strand into a 3-ply yarn.). I started by picking out the roving below - kettle dyed Jacob Humbug roving by Shunklies. Here's another look at the seriously loooooong repeats when the yarn was just a single:. The resulting yarn is fantastically soft, and i...

Cashmere Dreams: May 2008

http://kitchencotton.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

On a Kitchen Cotton Budget. Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Modern Libraries, Gaping Fish? Quick thoughts on E-books and opinions of librarians. I let my political leanings slip earlier when I mentioned how fabulous I think Al Giordano's The Field. Is - so I'll share a recent situation from the week:. A few nights ago I decided to walk 10 ish. Blocks to the local libe. I asked about this feature in depth (again, shocking! It's really cool - but no end period, ever? Onto patrons of the library? Aren't you there to...

Cashmere Dreams: Navajo Ply on the Fly!

http://kitchencotton.blogspot.com/2009/06/navajo-ply-on-fly.html

On a Kitchen Cotton Budget. Monday, June 1, 2009. Navajo Ply on the Fly! How to navajo ply on the fly! Here's how it all happened:. It all began when Cathy went to Madrona Fiber Arts. Aka "Madrona") last February, and apparently caught some sort of 48. Enthusiast bug. She was filled with soo many ideas and concepts that she couldn't possibly sleep. How do I know this, I tell you it was all the late emails with crazy talk of ply-as-you-go spindle spinning. See that wee loop on top? To learn more about it.

Cashmere Dreams: February 2009

http://kitchencotton.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

On a Kitchen Cotton Budget. Thursday, February 26, 2009. Today we celebrated a co-workers birthday, and I ran into a slight problem with the cake that I prepped for her. The plan involved a great fat-free rainbow cake recipe from Aleta at the Omnomicon. It's a funny post, and a great theme cake.) I played around with the shape for a bit of a Seussian. Look The candles, I thought, spelled out "Happy Birthday". When I assembled everything this morning, well. a slight improvisation was necessary:. My dogs h...

One in a million: February 2008

http://sockmonkeytypes.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 23, 2008. The trouble with being so environmentally conscious. Is that if you leave your car dome light on, you don't find out for four days. True story. Last Saturday I ran some errands with Mowgli. I had my hands full, as usual; so I must not have shut the car door properly after extracting Mowgli, various bags, and library books. Wednesday evening I go to the garage to pull the car out- heading to Deb's. Friday, February 22, 2008. For our graduation, the students decided to do a var...

Knitting Today and Everyday. Knitting, Knitting Patterns, Card Making, Quilting and More. Monday, March 24, 2008. I hope you had a Happy Easter! We had family and friends over yesterday. Both my SIL and BIL came over. My dear friends also brought their son Finn, our godson. We had a simple dinner followed by egg dyeing. Have I mentioned how much I love my oven lately? Knitting Today and Everyday: Evie's Tag Blanket

http://knittedgems.blogspot.com/2008/03/evies-tag-blanket.html

Knitting Today and Everyday. Knitting, Knitting Patterns, Card Making, Quilting and More. Friday, March 21, 2008. I have named the tag blanket pattern after my friend's daughter Evie. It was her fascination with taggies (she has two tag blankets and one tag toy) that inspired me to alter my XandO cloth into a tag blanket. After working for a whole week on the pattern, it is finally complete. The pattern contains two full pages of charts. The written directions take up another 8 pages. View my profile on.

Knitting Today and Everyday: 50 Cent Placemat

http://knittedgems.blogspot.com/2008/03/50-cent-placemat.html

Knitting Today and Everyday. Knitting, Knitting Patterns, Card Making, Quilting and More. Wednesday, March 12, 2008. I found this placemat being sold "As Is" for 50 cents. You can't see it real well, but there are black smear marks on the back side. I brought it home and cut the top corner two cupcakes out using a box cutter. I then smoothed out the edges with an X-acto knife. I raided my card drawer for two blank cards and Zots dots (adhesive dots). Voila, I present you with two birthday cards! So hopin...

My Kitchen Counsel

Welcome to my kitchen. April 7, 2014. Monkey Mind Mastery- aka letting go of the nuts. Here is the essence of a story that I heard recently on a yoga teacher training course in Bali. Peter Clifford of Anahata yoga. Shared it as part of his lecture on taming our ‘monkey minds’. He used this story about an old way of catching monkeys to demonstrate how our uncontrolled, unobserved minds create suffering in our lives. And so does the monkey let go of the nuts and run away nut free? November 3, 2013. Grab ho...
