Lymejello: June 2003
http://lymejello.blogspot.com/2003_06_01_archive.html
We've had running water for ten years, we built a tunnel all the way to Peru, and we invented the cat. Fountains of Wayne,. I was hoping that this long-awaited (at least by fans) release would be my Album of the Year. Compared to all the crap I’ve had to review for Splendid, it’s frighteningly good, and even better than 1999’s great. Bright Future In Sales is a cool, alternate universe answer to Hip To Be Square with an outtasite guitar riff and lots of yeah, yeah’s . Stacy’s Mom plays as blatant (an...

1991: My Light Shines On. June 27, 2015. July 19, 2015. Originally posted on Kriofske Mix. If it seems a little conspicuous that the only album I wrote about for 1991 was a compilation. Note that at times I seriously considered including the following: R.E.M.’s first number one album. Which also contained their highest-charting single), Seal’s first eponymous release. Believe it or not, he was actually interesting pre-Grammys/Steve Miller cover/Heidi Klum), Sam Phillips’ second secular album. 9 Divinyls,...

From this point on I’ll be posting yearly playlists. Although 1989 was actually Year Zero for me in terms of buying music, following the charts, etc; I’ll start with 1990 as it’s a good, round number. 8221;, a gleefully irreverent Cole Porter cover with perfectly acidic support from Debbie Harry which appeared on the wonderful. 12 Was (Not Was), “I Blew...

Three Good Rats: The Piano Teacher
http://blog.threegoodrats.com/2012/01/piano-teacher.html
Thursday, January 19, 2012. The Piano Teacher by Janice Y.K. Lee (2008). In anticipation of my upcoming trip to Hong Kong, I've been seeking out books that take place there. I recently read The Train to Lo Wu. The most surprising part of this novel was my success with the audio version (downloaded to my phone! However you choose to experience it, I hope you like it as much as I did. Labels: 2012 end of the world reading challenge. Janice y.k. lee. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Three Good Rats: The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents

Monday, May 11, 2015. The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents. The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents (Discworld #28) by Terry Pratchett (2001). I have not read any of the other Discworld. The rats all have names they got from product labels, like Dangerous Beans, Big Savings, Hamnpork, and Peaches. Everywhere they go, they drag with them a book called Mr. Bunnsy Has an Adventure,. Which is something I have a hard time believing could exist, but apparently does. Still, the personalities of...

Three Good Rats: It's over, To Read List
http://blog.threegoodrats.com/2015/05/its-over-to-read-list.html
Friday, May 8, 2015. It's over, To Read List. Yes, you heard me correctly: I'm breaking up with my To Read list. This list has become dominating and controlling and our relationship has been unhealthy for some time now. It needs to end. I need to be able to feel ok about reading books outside of the list, and not feel compelled to read what's on the list when I'm no longer as interested in them as I once was. This is how my To Read list makes me feel. I've kept everything on my TBR Pile Challenge. So far...

Three Good Rats: All Fall Down

Friday, May 15, 2015. All Fall Down by Jennifer Weiner (2014). Traditionally, I've read every Jennifer Weiner novel as soon as it's published, but then when I read The Next Best Thing. I was so disappointed that I vowed not. To run out and immediately read her next book. When All Fall Down. Was released last year, I heard from a friend that it was much better than her previous novel and thankfully, she was right. Labels: all fall down. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Three Good Rats: March 2015
http://blog.threegoodrats.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 30, 2015. A few I did not finish. It's been a while since I've talked about some of the books I started and put down, so here are the latest, in chronological order. The Girl on the Train. Unless you live under a rock, you have probably heard of this since it's the hottest novel around. Again and again I am surprised when I don't see the appeal of the book everyone else in the world seems to love, and this is no different. It has been compared to Gone Girl. Links to this post. I love a good...

Three Good Rats: The Next Best Thing
http://blog.threegoodrats.com/2012/08/the-next-best-thing.html
Thursday, August 2, 2012. The Next Best Thing. The Next Best Thing by Jennifer Weiner (2012). The premise was pretty good, the beginning was promising, and I liked the ending. But I struggled with what came between. I'm not the best person to judge a book that revolves around Hollywood and tv since I view them both pretty unfavorably (though I share Ruth's love of The Golden Girls), but I found the shallow, spoiled characters and bad behavior all rather boring and annoying. Of course. The next best thing.

We've had running water for ten years, we built a tunnel all the way to Peru, and we invented the cat. What do you do when your roommates steal your rum, won’t give you money for the overdue gas and electric bills, never think of purchasing dishwasher detergent, and stink up the refrigerator with rotting kimchee? What do you do when the bell you press to stop the overcrowded bus doesn’t work, and although you shout out Next stop, please , and the driver drives on and on? So, what can you do? Stop taking ...
