I think this line is mostly filler. A somewhat random blog and sometimes meta-blog, always thought about longer than it takes to type. Wednesday, January 21, 2009. What time is it? Who: Flight of the Conchords. What: a post dedicated to Amelia. Why: she said she liked the idea of feety-pjs; this gives her another reason to do so. What do you mean? Listen for the line about socks and all will become clear, Grasshopper. Saturday, January 17, 2009. Looks sleek, but how does it handle in the water? We're hea...

The T and I are two units in the masses traveling for the holidays. There is a certain mindset you have to shoot for in order to stay sane. In the airport and truly appreciate the signs that read Thank you for. Participating in security. This time of year- and this year in. Crowds behind. We both feel like we cheated som...

I think this line is mostly filler. A somewhat random blog and sometimes meta-blog, always thought about longer than it takes to type. Monday, August 31, 2009. If only it were this easy. Tuesday, August 18, 2009. My first mistake was watching The T get into Facebook. That was a small step but a major one. I could feel my mind split into two. I followed her down the FB rabbit hole and now I suffer from online schizophrenia. This is just like in Stephen King's The Drawing of the Three. Should I call her?

in favor of thinking: January 2007
http://infavorofthinking.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
In favor of thinking. If I were the Emperor of everything. Three simple rules that would have improved this week, were they followed:. 1) No meeting should be three hours long. Ever. 2) Faculty who don't come to any of the job talks, job candidate interviews, or faculty get-togethers should not be allowed to pontificate in the hiring meeting about candidates they never met. They shouldn't be allowed to vote either. 3) Mel should get 8 hours of sleep every night. Or at least seven. What not to write.

In favor of thinking. Or at least semi-done! I'm done with teaching for the spring term, and I am so happy! So, cleaning, some moviegoing, some cooking and relaxing. An excellent weekend ahead, to be followed soon enough by two months of relative freedom! No wonder I woke up feeling so happy today! The most interesting moments in First Snow. I was interested in seeing this movie, though, because I think it's part of a larger Zeitgeist. Or what if the future is. Just a repeat of the past ( Deja Vu. Last n...

I think this line is mostly filler. A somewhat random blog and sometimes meta-blog, always thought about longer than it takes to type. Saturday, October 24, 2009. Top 10 Internet Laws. 1 Godwin’s Law. As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1. 2 Poe’s Law. Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humour, it is impossible to create a parody of fundamentalism that someone won't mistake for the real thing. 4 Skitt’s Law. A person'...

in favor of thinking: doing her part for the planet

In favor of thinking. Doing her part for the planet. Over the past couple years, several companies have switched to biodegradable packing peanuts made from cornstarch derivatives. I don't know what else must be in them, but we found Old Girl happily snacking away on a few yesterday. Cornstarch itself doesn't seem like something that would be particularly scented or tasty, but dogs sure seem to like the peanuts. Perhaps that's a secret tactic for degrading them?
