The cars have gone-hooray! | Our French Adventure
https://kathandroger.wordpress.com/2015/07/30/the-cars-have-gone-hooray
Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. July 30, 2015. The cars have gone-hooray! Sculptures and found their way into my workshop, but on the whole nothing was worth pinching! Now everyone to his trade, but I could not help but admire the skills of the crane operator, plucking heavy objects from difficult spots and dumping them accurately into the trailers, often very close to the power lines. He even stopped to let Kath fetch her camera and paused when she found the card was full! I can imagin...

The Centipede and the Slippery Sheep. | Our French Adventure
https://kathandroger.wordpress.com/2015/06/14/the-centipede-and-the-slippery-sheep
Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. June 14, 2015. The Centipede and the Slippery Sheep. I make sure that the shears etc are all hidden, but she has a sixth sense for shearing. She escaped completely last year, so there are two years of fleece to remove this time. I will get her this year though….I hope. Here she is with the semi naked ram, in the trap, and laughing at me. Laquo; Into the bowels of the earth and the unusual amphibian. I am sure you will not be beaten by a sheep! Car rally a...

Mid Summer. | Our French Adventure
https://kathandroger.wordpress.com/2015/07/12/mid-summer
Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. July 12, 2015. What a change in one week! The harvest is almost complete, and the tranquility of our country life has been perturbed by the continuous hum of the combine harvesters and tractors. And do they work! But our own harvest is also now in full swing. The garden is producing lots of vegetables now-as usual with loads too many courgettes, and the orchard is at present supplying lots of good figs. The local chicory flowers have come out this last we...

Rotten wood and drowning motorists. | Our French Adventure
https://kathandroger.wordpress.com/2015/07/23/rotten-wood-and-drowning-motorists
Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. July 23, 2015. Rotten wood and drowning motorists. I was more than a little alarmed a few days ago to find the building over our wine press had developed rot in one of the supports and was in the process of falling down. It was constructed with some old timbers from our barn-poplar with lots of worm holes in it, but I figured that with a good coating of paint it wood last for years. Wrong! Laquo; Mid Summer. The cars have gone-hooray! On July 23, 2015.

Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. June 27, 2015. Silly Swallows and the shorn sheep. The problem is that bits of the ceiling have been falling down for years, and with the increasing weight of the occupants we are worried that it will all come to a disastrous end. I don’t want to interfere with supports in case the parents desert the brood, so we will have to keep fingers crossed. Rosemary the sheep has finally been caught and shorn! Laquo; Our little lane. Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. June 10, 2016. Caruso, the poo sign and the wayward chicken. The lovely warm summer weather has at last arrived. It means the grass grows even more quickly and that the mowers seem always on the go, but there are some compensations. In the evening, a well earned beer or two is savoured on our little table outside our house, overlooking the courtyard. June 2, 2016. The Power of Horses. So today we have horsepower to measure the output of car engines. A...

Our little lane. | Our French Adventure
https://kathandroger.wordpress.com/2015/06/22/our-little-lane
Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. June 22, 2015. We have about two cars an hour along the little road, and even Dennis is not scared to wander up and down there. The commune have recently cut the verges, which, to my mind, is a pity, as they are usually full of wild flowers. I counted how many species I had seen in this little road, but have lost count! Only jesting-it is the oil seed rape which has done so well this year. Laquo; The Centipede and the Slippery Sheep. Work on the house.

Hair of the Dog, and mortar attacks. | Our French Adventure

Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. May 29, 2015. Hair of the Dog, and mortar attacks. However, a date was made and we hastened back to the computer to find out how to trim a springadoodle. The answer was not available other than to say that the hair of a young dog is very fine and does not change into the adult form until almost a year of age. The animal and owners arrived. Much dismay, protests and tears from the daughter, and we hadn’t even started! Laquo; Meadows and mechanics. Notify m...

Starting a new life in the heart of rural France. June 6, 2015. Into the bowels of the earth and the unusual amphibian. I think I detected a bit of well cussing as the joints were difficult to undo, but after some time the pump and puisatier reappeared. The only sad reflection was that the original electrician should have found out the condenser was at fault and that the well man,and his fee, was not needed at all! What a pretty chap-actually it is probably a female, and it is known locally as a “t...
