Crocodiles in the Wild. Crocs in the Wild. Internet Cafe (La Diva del Manglar). The water temps in Chacahua are usually about as good as it gets. The water is normally in the high 70s to low 80s. You won't see anyone surfing in a wetsuit here. If you are coming to Chacahua for the surf, the largest waves usually hit the coast from May through July. If you like mild waves or are just learning to surf, you might be better off visiting between November and March.

The lagoons are a perfect stop for migratory birds. Just like many of the tourists in Chacanua, the birds come, find paradise, and don't want to leave. For that reason, you can find many species of birds basking in the sun and eating to their hearts' content for long periods of time. Here are just a few of them.

That is, until you're sitting in a boat a few inches above the water and one comes out of nowhere, snaps at you, and disappears before you can say, LOOK! You can walk out the jetty, toss your board out and jump in. Plan on walking back up the beach after your wave because it is likely to be a very long ride. A local surfer shreds the long ride before walking back up the beach to paddle out for another long ride. And there's surf on the Mainland too!
