開發於清雍正間，以萬丹社為據點，但四周山中仍為原住民族所聚居。「南投」地名原是原住民「南投社」部落，乾隆年間（距今約二百三十年前）有漳州府張姓、南靖縣簡姓、林、蕭姓等人氏先後來居。1759年初設丞館衙門於南投國小現址，1897年設南投郡，1950年自原屬台中縣區署劃出定名 南投縣. 65292;十月縣市行政正式劃分為南投縣南投鎮，縣治設於此。1957年省府遷至中興新村，南投成為省府所在地。七十年升格為縣轄市，至今。 訂閱： 文章 (Atom).
