MS is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK. It is the result of damage to myelin - the protective sheath around the nerve fibres of the central nervous system. When damaged this interferes with messages between the brain and other parts of the body. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too. Seven people are diagnosed with MS EVERY DAY in the UK. Once diagnosed, MS stays with a person for life.

Laura was diagnosed with relapse remitting multiple sclerosis, aged 25. Following discussions with her GP, family and friends, Laura made the difficult decision to leave teaching for the foreseeable future. Laura secured a job as a part time special educational needs assistant (SEN) for two hours a day, however felt she could cope with more after being offered more hours.
