Thursday, January 5, 2012. Yesterday there was an exciting " cover reveal. So I enjoyed working on these more than usual, and am thrilled with how they came out. The final jackets will be printed with a Pantone color, a fluorescent (yellow for "CAT", orange for "GLOVE" and magenta for "HEART") so they'll really glow. Can't wait to see them all, and they will soon all be available here. The light pink areas mark "danger zones" to be avoided because of proximity to gutter and trim areas, and the grey blobs...

http://www.laurenrille.blogspot.com/2011/12/sophie-peterman-tells-truth.html

Sunday, December 4, 2011. Sophie Peterman Tells the Truth! One of the first projects I got to work on from start to finish at S&S was Sophie Peterman Tells. Written by Sarah Weeks, illustrated by Robert Neubecker. And edited by the hugely talented Andrea Welch. I was thrilled to get to wo. With Robert, I'd been a fan. Ever since I first saw his WOW! In Robert's early sketches, he hand-lettered the entire text. My eyes bugged out I was so excited (who doesn't love hand lettering? For the little brother:.

Thursday, January 5, 2012. This soon-to-be-released picture books is very close to my heart. The process of making it was one of those great collaborations between editor, illustrator and myself that makes me love my job so much. Heather Ross. http://www.laurenrille.blogspot.com/2011/12/z-v-u-or-dream-job.html

Sunday, December 4, 2011. Z v U, or, the dream job. When the book "Zombies Vs. Unicorns" came up for assignment, every designer's hand shot up. In the end, it landed with me and my talented colleague Sonia Chaghatzbanian. We tag-teamed the design and art direction, which made an already fun project even more so. The Garden of Earthly Delight. And we wanted the hugely talented Josh Cochran. To do it. He was on board immediately and then the fun began. Notes back to JC:. We carried all this into the interi...

Draw, erase, draw again. B & W Illustrations. April 18, 2014. April 11, 2015. In recovery mode after the SCBWI Western WA Spring conference, I suffered a bout of the blues after spending three heady days with my “tribe”. There’s nothing like the exchange of energy and creativity between children’s books writers and illustrators. Such nice people, but don’t let that fool you. These people are driven! Driven to create, driven to share and driven to succeed, all under the guise of niceness. I also picked up.

I wish for my mom that she had had the chance to pursue her craft in a more substantial way; had cultivated relationships with like-minded creatives who might have encouraged and challenged her. Sad to say (and to my shame) her girls reached an age where we did not appreciate nor would we wear the clothes she so loved to make. Leonard Baskin’s miniature gems. July 25, 2015. February 7, 2016. Lauren Riley Baker's Blog

Lauren Riley Baker's Blog. Sunday, January 9, 2011. Thanksgiving - Down in Southport, NC. Lauren's first Thanksgiving was really special! She spent it with her Nana and Pop Pop but also got to meet her other relatives, Aunt Ali , Uncle Charles and cousins Charlie and Witt for the first time, who were visiting from Nashville! Poor Witt had strep throat so he wasn't really allowed to play with Lauren. The boys are so good and handsome - I might add! Ali and Brad with Witt and Charlie on their shoulders.
