Law Librarian By Day. Boring normal person by night. The Law and Lord Peter Wimsey: More of an Introduction Than an Analysis. I have recently begun rereading the Lord Peter Wimsey series. By Dorothy L. Sayers. Sayers's mysteries are intricately plotted, elegantly written and feature one of my favorite literary characters. Over the course of the series Lord Peter becomes so well-drawn a character that it can be hard to remember he only ever existed on paper. (Particularly when his portrait. Then again, wo...

Law Librarian By Day. Boring normal person by night. The Popular Collection, Nine Months On. The students are all busy with exams, and the library is quiet as another semester draws to a close. Sounds like a good time to take a quick look at how the popular collection. Has grown and changed over the last term. Our first orders for the popular collection were placed with two companies, Amazon (movies) and YBP (books). Every so often I'd run across a book YBP didn't carry, but the selection seemed gene...

Law Librarian By Day. Boring normal person by night. Schadenfreude, Online Privacy and Me. Now, there was nothing shocking posted on that site, nothing that could make my mother blush. (One of the nice things about not drinking alcohol is that you never have to worry about people having crazy! So why did I delete it? Known me to find it. But the principle stands.). So, what did I learn? Links to this post. Labels: i did it my way. This is a good idea right? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I did it my way.

Law Librarian By Day. Boring normal person by night. Libraries: Bigger on the Inside. Come inside and there are countless programs, resources and, yes, books - enough for years of exploration. When the time comes to change, we do. And just as the Doctor never tires of introducing new companions to his home, librarians can exude that same glee about our professional homes. What happens when someone new discovers the TARDIS? Links to this post. Labels: bigger on the inside. I have owned my nook. Just about...

Interlibrary Litanies: A New Adventure: Library School
http://interlibrarylitanies.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-new-adventure-library-school.html
Monday, January 14, 2013. A New Adventure: Library School. Well, next week begins my adventure into grad school. It’s hard to believe I made it to this point. As some of you know after about a year, definitely two years, of working at the UND’s (University of North Dakota) Chester Fritz Library I was sure that Library Science was for me. So, I have improved some of my study habits, but suggestions are always welcomed. Although studying does sometimes lead to this:. Sarah L. Rowland. Sarah L. Rowland.

Interlibrary Litanies: March 2013
http://interlibrarylitanies.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 15, 2013. I’ve heard it from a few different professors and others professionals, that for networking and other purposes we should have an elevator pitch ready to go. Basically, no matter what profession we’re in this is something we should think about and have it ready. Do I have one? So, do you have an elevator pitch? What do you think is important to put in one? Sarah L. Rowland. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Sarah L. Rowland. View my complete profile. A Librarian's Guide to Etiquette.

Interlibrary Litanies: Learning Philosophy
http://interlibrarylitanies.blogspot.com/2013/09/learning-philosophy.html
Monday, September 16, 2013. For my discussion forum in my instruction class we had to define our learning philosophy and how do we define learning. Do we need to be able to explain? Is it a change in knowledge? In summary learning to me means one has gained enough knowledge to increase their number of building blocks and can apply these building blocks to accomplish what they set out to learn. So, how do you define learning? Is it a transfer of knowledge? Does my building block metaphor make sense?

Interlibrary Litanies: Skills for Online Success
http://interlibrarylitanies.blogspot.com/2013/02/skills-for-online-success.html
Tuesday, February 12, 2013. Skills for Online Success. Now my weakness or what I consider my gray area would be time management and organization. I have both of these skills it’s just I get busy or lazy and forget to use them. When I do use them (and I’ve been getting better at using them) I’m very successful with accomplishing things. The biggest weakness I have is procrastination. I have tried beating it out of me, but it’s very engrained into me. Hopefully by putting all of this into practice,. A Libr...
