Monday, July 20, 2015. What a weekend of wacky weather! The rain on Saturday and Sunday shattered records. San Diego's 1.7 inches of rain this July is more rain than San Diego received in the last 101 Julys combined. The air never smells very good after it rains in California. Rather than the fresh, crisp smell that follows storms in the midwest, the air here becomes heavy and sour with the smell of rotting foliage. All kinds of insects hatch. A Day of Photo Ops. Sunday, August 2, 2015. The Wrangler is home after a weekend in Boston checking up on Moto. It was a weekend I would have adored- a riding lesson with Moto, barn time, puffy clouds, green hills, lobster rolls. I ended up staying here on the ranch with the animals, but we had a blessedly uneventful weekend- no snakes, coyotes, intruders, wildfires, injuries, or other calamities. Bird on a Wire. Don't look, just leap. Thursday, March 20, 2008. I hate obituaries, the finality and the sadness of them. I pray not to read my own. But I read the weekly obituary in the Economist. They are written with such grace and such compassion. They dont tell the story of the person who died; they tell the story of the person who lived. About the last French soldier, brought me to tears twice. The writer makes the person still seem alive. In a way, his thoughts and his humanity still are. Links to this post.
